We are now launching a new Global Shared Service Centre in Sofia. This hub is the strategic heart of our international finance and people operations, and we are looking for leaders to contribute to building the global team from the ground up.

The Opportunity

As a GL Team Lead, you will serve as a strategic lineworker and leadership pillar within our senior team, driving the Finance Operations engine to deliver world-class month-end results. You won’t just manage numbers; you will own the financial narrative for a key line of business, partnering closely with Commercial Finance to challenge assumptions and ensure every insight is as accurate as it is impactful. From spearheading half-year and year-end audits to safeguarding our integrity through robust group controls, your role is central to our fiscal health. We are looking for a visionary who sees beyond the ledger—someone eager to hunt down process improvements, champion continuous innovation, and take pride in mentoring a high-performing team toward their full potential.

Requirements

  • Manage the team delivering monthly accounting and month-end close activities including: processing journal entries/cost allocations and the preparation of period-end reporting to the required close timelines
  • Responsible for the preparation of robust P&L’s, substantiating account/general ledger balances and providing first level commentary
  • Present monthly financial results to key stakeholders and highlighting risks and opportunities
  • Ensure Balance Sheet reconciliations have been completed to a high standard, in a timely manner and subjected to a robust review process
  • Support in the half year and year end process and ensuring audit requests are dealt with promptly
  • Escalate issues arising to senior management and helping resolve them
  • Ensure Ocado accounting policies are implemented and adhered to
  • Line management and development of the team
  • Proactively identifying opportunities to standardise, streamline/improve processes and analysis, and improve accuracy
  • Embed a culture of controls compliance within the team, with responsibility for operating effectiveness and evidencing of all key controls, and remediation of any control weaknesses
  • Build excellent relationships with finance business partners and other areas of finance to resolve variances and other issues in order to meet reporting/timing requirements
  • Provide first level commentary on the month-end pack
  • Provision of accurate numbers for all disclosures in the annual report and statutory accounts
  • Seek continuous improvement and constantly challenging the team to improve standard

Essential Criteria

  • Financial qualification - Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or other relevant field
  • Additional qualifications - eg. ACCA or CIMA would be considered as an advantage
  • Line management experience 2+ years
  • An understanding of core financial processes and relevant systems
  • Knowledge of accounting, tax and reporting standards & principles
  • Experience in a fast-paced similar sized environment
  • Experience with transitioning work to a shared service centre would be considered as a strong advantage
  • Experience in delivering great customer / user experience (desirable)
  • Ability to set and achieve stretch goals prioritise tasks and work closely with colleagues
  • Ability to complete work to a high standard whilst identifying opportunities for further improvement
  • Mindset to own and drive their development plans: to improve their technical and soft skills and their understanding of the business
  • Strong attention to detail; able to provide accurate and timely data/reporting
  • Good communication/presentation skills
  • Adaptability to change and positive mindset
  • Ability to build trusted relationships
