Lead the development of enterprise AI solutions that deliver real business impact
  • Join a newly expanding AI & Automation team with significant investment and visibility.
  • Build production AI agents and automation solutions using cutting-edge Microsoft technology.
  • Influence technical standards whilst helping shape the future direction of the function.

This Senior AI Automation Engineer position offers the chance to work on projects that move quickly from concept into production. You'll build solutions that are used by real users and have measurable business impact. You'll sit within a highly visible team that is investing heavily in modern AI capabilities.

What you'll be doing
You'll design and build AI agents, automation workflows and production-grade applications using Python, Azure and Microsoft AI technologies. Working closely with technology and business stakeholders, you'll integrate AI solutions into existing platforms, develop reusable engineering components and help establish best practices across the team. You'll also support technical design reviews, contribute to engineering standards and help ensure solutions are scalable, reliable and secure.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex problems and building technology that genuinely improves the way people work. You'll also help define the future of the team's engineering capability.

What experience you'll need to apply
  • Several years of commercial experience building and deploying AI-powered solutions (ideally within medium to large organisations)
  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Copilot Studio, ideally including the design and deployment of AI agents over the last 12 months or more
  • Strong Python development experience, including building production-ready applications, APIs and automation workflows
  • Experience working with Azure, particularly within AI, automation or cloud-based development environments
  • Experience implementing AI solutions in production environments rather than purely proof of concept work
  • Strong understanding of AI orchestration, agent design and systems integration
  • Experience working closely with stakeholders to understand business challenges and turn them into technical solutions
  • Experience operating within professional services, financial services, insurance, tax or other regulated environments would be highly beneficial
  • Previous experience providing technical leadership, mentoring engineers or helping establish engineering standards would be advantageous
  • Please note that this role is best suited to candidates who have been applying AI within a commercial business environment rather than solely through freelance, consultancy or personal projects

What you'll get in return for your experience
A salary of up to £80,000 plus discretionary bonus, alongside hybrid working, generous annual leave, wellbeing benefits, ongoing professional development and the opportunity to join a highly visible and rapidly expanding AI function.

Location & Working Pattern
This role can be based from either Birmingham, London or Manchester, with a hybrid working model of three days per week in the office.

Please note that sponsorship is not available for this position. Applicants must already have the unrestricted right to work in the UK on a permanent basis. Unfortunately, applications from candidates who require sponsorship now or in the future cannot be considered.

What's next?
Apply today with your CV! We're supporting this organisation with three vacancies within the same AI & Automation team. Please apply for the role that best suits your experience and requirements. To avoid duplicates, applications will be reviewed against the selected position and may also be considered for the other opportunities where appropriate.

What Is an AI Forward Deployed Engineer? The Fastest-Growing Job in AI for 2026

If you have been watching AI job boards over the past year, one title keeps surfacing again and again: the forward deployed engineer, or FDE. It has gone from a niche term known mainly to Palantir alumni to arguably the hottest role in the entire AI hiring market. Job postings for forward deployed engineers have exploded, salaries have climbed past levels most software engineers will ever see, and the biggest names in AI — OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Salesforce, Databricks and Palantir — are all competing for the same small pool of talent. So what exactly is an AI forward deployed engineer, why has demand surged so dramatically, and how do you position yourself to land one of these roles? This guide breaks it all down for AI engineers, software engineers and data scientists looking at their next move.
