Verian’sPopulation Studiesteam of c.40 researchers works on high profile and influential official and national statistics, longitudinal studies, and ad hoc research on topics such as crime, education, science, energy, transport and culture. We work for clients such as the Office for National Statistics, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, Transport for London, and the Department for Energy and Net Zero. Our work feeds into vital national statistics such as the latest crime figures and the Consumer Prices Index. We also work for academic clients such as the Institute of Social and Economic Research at Essex University, running large-scale longitudinal studies, includingUnderstanding Society,the largest longitudinal household panel of its kind in the world.

Purpose of the role:

The Senior Director for Data Analytics leads the data quality and analytics team in Population Studies, specialising in large quantitative social research studies in the UK. This ensures that our clients get the best possible data outputs in the most efficient way possible. They are also responsible for growing our data science capability and offer to clients. The Senior Director for Data Analytics is the key business interface for the development of Verian’s cutting-edge data infrastructure, ensuring that it delivers what the business needs. They also advise on data science, AI and data ethics and act as the relationship lead for our formal partnership with Faculty AI.

Main Responsibilities:

• Leadand line managethe data quality and analytics teamin Population Studies (currently 3 permanent members of staff and 2 interns)
• Lead thedevelopment of the data science and AI capabilityfor Verian in the UK
• Bethe relationship leadwith Verian’s applied AI partner, Faculty AI
• Work with Faculty to continue todevelop innovative ethical AI toolsfor use in the social research process
• Lead thedevelopment of new data science productsfor clients such as the Context Model
• Identifynew data science project opportunitiesand contribute technical content to new business bids that require data management, data science and AI specialist knowledge
• Act as the interface between the research teams and Technology on thedevelopment of Verian’s new data infrastructureso that it is best in class for UK researchers and projects
• Leador contribute toprojects that include data science or AI
• Advise colleagues globally on use of Data Science and AIand work closely with the UK Methods team (statisticians)Escalation pointfor any data quality concerns for Verian UK flagship projects

Who we are looking for

In addition to possessing the suitable skills and experience to deliver against the above responsibilities, to be successful you’ll also need to:

• Have experience of successfully leading data teams from data collection through to dissemination
• Have an innovative approach to delivering efficiency in the production of data outputs, ideally in a statistical or social research context
• Have experience of leading data science/AI projects and teams
• Demonstrate the ability to lead teams through substantial change
• Be able to work with colleagues and senior leaders in Technology and Data Solutions to deliver future facing data infrastructure
• It is desirable to have a track record of working on high profile, data outputs to time and quality
