Python Developer

London (Hybrid, 2 days onsite per week)

6-Month Contract | Inside IR35 | Competitive Day Rate

We are looking for an experienced Python Developer to join a high-performing technology team developing innovative machine learning and artificial intelligence solutions that support cutting-edge scientific research and drug discovery.

This is a key role focused on designing, building, and deploying scalable software platforms that enable the integration of AI/ML capabilities into production environments. You'll work closely with software engineers, data engineers, data scientists, and research teams to deliver high-quality solutions that accelerate scientific innovation and improve outcomes through advanced technology.

You will be responsible for the development, deployment, integration, and continuous improvement of cloud-native applications, ensuring they are secure, scalable, reliable, and aligned with modern software engineering best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and maintain backend services and APIs for Python-based web applications.

Design, deploy, and manage cloud-native infrastructure to support data-driven applications and services.

Integrate AI/ML models and services with frontend applications, data platforms, and compute environments.

Deliver high-quality software solutions following engineering best practices, including automated testing, documentation, and code quality standards.

Develop, monitor, and improve key operational and performance metrics across applications and services.

Participate in peer code reviews, contributing to continuous improvement across engineering standards and practices.

Collaborate with software engineers, data engineers, and data scientists to build and maintain end-to-end data and machine learning pipelines.

Support CI/CD processes and ensure reliable deployment of applications into production environments.

Troubleshoot, optimise, and maintain applications to ensure high availability and performance.We're Looking For:

Proven experience as a Python Developer, Backend Developer, Software Engineer, or Application Developer.

Strong commercial experience developing applications using Python.

Experience working within cloud environments, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform.

Experience with automated testing frameworks such as Pytest.

Strong understanding of modern software development practices, including Git, GitHub, CI/CD, and DevOps methodologies.

Experience working within Agile software development environments.

Experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs and backend services.

Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.Desirable:

Experience with FastAPI, Docker, containerised applications, React or Vue, AI/ML-powered applications, Large Language Models (LLMs), Natural Language Processing (NLP), data engineering pipelines, scientific datasets, and highly regulated environments. Exposure to technical leadership, mentoring junior developers, or delivering large-scale software projects would be advantageous.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, Life Sciences, or a related discipline, or equivalent commercial experience.
