Benefits

Career progression to VP level Exposure to live deals and production systems Close collaboration with senior bankers Involvement in end-to-end product development

A boutique investment bank in London is hiring a Data Scientist at VP level to build AI and modelling products for its bankers. Hands-on, small team, and what you build goes into production and gets used on live deals.

To be clear on what this is not: it is not a trading or markets seat. The work is banker solutions, built for the people doing the deals.

What you will be doing:

• Building generative AI and machine learning products end to end, from prototype through to production. LLMs and NLP applied to real M&A and advisory problems, not proofs of concept that go nowhere

• Statistical and predictive modelling, from framing the question through to a model in production

• Writing production-quality Python and owning your own code, working closely with engineering

• Working directly with senior bankers, and explaining your models and your reasoning to people who are not data scientists

What they are looking for:

• Genuine hands-on depth. You are still building models and writing code every day, and you want to keep it that way

• Real AI and modelling rigour, and the ability to talk through the choices you made and why

• A platform and product background rather than a purely business-facing or advisory one

• Financial services experience, ideally investment banking. M&A or advisory exposure is a real advantage

• A CV with real substance behind each role, and tenure that shows you build things rather than pass through

Worth knowing before you apply: the interview process includes a live coding exercise, so you will need to be comfortable writing code in front of people.

If that sounds like you, send your CV through, and I will come back to you.

What Is an AI Forward Deployed Engineer? The Fastest-Growing Job in AI for 2026

If you have been watching AI job boards over the past year, one title keeps surfacing again and again: the forward deployed engineer, or FDE. It has gone from a niche term known mainly to Palantir alumni to arguably the hottest role in the entire AI hiring market. Job postings for forward deployed engineers have exploded, salaries have climbed past levels most software engineers will ever see, and the biggest names in AI — OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Salesforce, Databricks and Palantir — are all competing for the same small pool of talent. So what exactly is an AI forward deployed engineer, why has demand surged so dramatically, and how do you position yourself to land one of these roles? This guide breaks it all down for AI engineers, software engineers and data scientists looking at their next move.
