AI INTEGRATION ENGINEER

Salary: £55,000 - £65,000 per annum
Location: Scotland
Working Hours: Monday - Friday

Employment Type: Permanent

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced AI Integration Engineer to join a well-established and growing business operating within the construction and structural steel sector.

This is a hands-on role for an engineer who can take AI solutions from concept and prototype through to production, helping the business identify where AI can improve efficiency, accuracy and user experience.

You will work closely with internal teams to design, develop and integrate practical, secure AI solutions across existing business systems and platforms.

The Company

You will be joining a successful, family-run business with a long-standing reputation within the UK and Ireland's structural steel fabrication and construction industry.

The business has continued to invest in people, technology and innovation and is now looking to bring AI further into its operations.

This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in developing the company's AI capability from the ground up, with significant scope for ownership, innovation and career development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver AI solutions using Microsoft Azure, including RAG, data classification, forecasting and anomaly detection.
  • Identify opportunities to introduce AI into existing business processes and systems.
  • Integrate AI solutions with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Teams, Entra ID, SQL databases and other business applications.
  • Develop straightforward and user-friendly AI applications for web and Microsoft Teams.
  • Develop and deploy LLM and machine learning solutions into production environments.
  • Implement monitoring, logging and audit processes to support GDPR, ISO and wider security requirements.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into practical technical solutions.
  • Evaluate emerging AI technologies and make recommendations regarding their potential use within the business.
  • Ensure solutions are secure, scalable, maintainable and aligned with company standards.

Essential Experience

  • 2-4 years' experience in AI/ML, software engineering or a closely related field.
  • Experience deploying LLM or machine learning solutions into production.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and/or C#.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Azure services such as:
  • Azure App Service
  • Azure AI Search
  • Azure Functions
  • Azure Storage
  • Azure Key Vault
  • Understanding of APIs, databases and enterprise system integration.
  • Experience or understanding of Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Graph API.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to take AI projects from prototype through to robust production deployment.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
  • Knowledge of vector databases.
  • Experience with AI frameworks such as Haystack, LlamaIndex or Semantic Kernel.
  • Experience with forecasting, anomaly detection or data classification.
  • Knowledge of CNC, manufacturing, construction or other industrial environments would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Understanding of GDPR, ISO standards and secure AI development.

Ideal candidate

  • We are looking for someone who is technically strong but also pragmatic and commercially minded.
  • You will be comfortable experimenting with new AI technologies but equally focused on delivering solutions that are reliable, secure and genuinely useful to the business.
  • This would suit an AI Engineer, AI Integration Engineer, Machine Learning Engineer or Software Engineer with strong AI/LLM experience who is looking to take ownership of real-world AI implementation.

What Is an AI Forward Deployed Engineer? The Fastest-Growing Job in AI for 2026

If you have been watching AI job boards over the past year, one title keeps surfacing again and again: the forward deployed engineer, or FDE. It has gone from a niche term known mainly to Palantir alumni to arguably the hottest role in the entire AI hiring market. Job postings for forward deployed engineers have exploded, salaries have climbed past levels most software engineers will ever see, and the biggest names in AI — OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Salesforce, Databricks and Palantir — are all competing for the same small pool of talent. So what exactly is an AI forward deployed engineer, why has demand surged so dramatically, and how do you position yourself to land one of these roles? This guide breaks it all down for AI engineers, software engineers and data scientists looking at their next move.
