Team – Senior Data Scientist


Remuneration: Competitive base salary plus bonus

The Role:


IWSR is expanding its Forecasting, Analytics and Modelling capabilities and seeks an experienced Senior Data Scientist as part of its growing team of data scientists and econometricians. This team will support the production of forecasts and analytics for the global beverage alcohol industry in collaboration with IWSR’s research team. The candidate will also contribute to IWSR’s consultancy projects which typically involve bespoke forecasts, analytics, and custom model development to support our clients business planning.


Your expertise in Data Science, delivering statistical, and ML/AI approaches to uncover data patterns and build models and excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills will be invaluable as part of this expanding team. With an advanced degree in Data Science, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent professional experience and a passion for learning and keeping abreast of innovative technologies and data models, you will help us bring clarity from complexity and deliver high-quality analytics and data-driven advice to our clients.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities


This role will report to the IWSR’s Head of Forecasting and work towards ensuring that IWSR’s forecasts, analytics and models are market-leading in terms of quality, relevance, and reliability. The successful candidate will be rigorous, adaptable, and creative in seeking solutions to difficult forecasting, analytics, and modelling questions. The candidate will take on a range of tasks that include:


Data Analysis and Exploration: Oversee the collection, cleansing, and analysis of data from multiple sources to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights to support decision-making processes and solve complex business problems

Statistical Modeling and Machine Learning/AI: Build predictive models to forecast trends and outcomes, contributing to strategic decision-making. Develop and implement machine learning algorithms to solve specific business problems. Collaborate with the wider team to deploy, run, and maintain these models in a production environment. Evaluate model performance and tune for optimal performance

Communication: Communicate insights effectively through the creation of compelling narratives, data visualizations, reports, and dashboards. Present findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders within the business, and to existing customers and during pre-sales activity

Data Capture: Work with internal and customer teams to define data requirements. Ensure elevated levels of data quality by cleansing, preprocessing, and transforming data to prepare it for modelling and analytical activity. Proactively identify potential data capture issues and work with the wider team to resolve them

Innovation: Stay abreast of the latest advancements in ML/AI and generative models, proposing and implementing innovative solutions to enhance IWSR capabilities.



Skills and Experience

Experience:Over 7 years of experience in delivering Data Science projects, utilizing Python programming, statistical and machine learning techniques, time series analysis, and data visualization

Qualifications:Advanced degree in Data Science, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent professional experience

Analytical Skills:Strong passion for innovation and problem-solving, with the ability to think creatively and critically to tackle challenges and seize opportunities

Technical Skills:Proficient in advanced technical skills such as Python, SQL, R, and Excel, with experience in source control tools like GitHub

Statistical Skills:Extensive experience in developing, deploying, and maintaining machine learning and AI (Artificial Intelligence) models, using TensorFlow or similar frameworks

Sector Knowledge:Preferably experienced in the FMCG sector or with a background in Market Research

Communication:Excellent communication skills to engage with stakeholders, agree on requirements, and convey complex analytical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences

Team Management:Proven experience in successful line management and/or leading a team of analysts
