The law should be accessible to everyone, and this is where your skills will redefine how businesses will do their own legal work. You’ll be building products around large language models (LLM) and solving complex problems in drafting, reviewing and customising legal documents. This role is very much about utilising your research to build products.

Your skills will be developed by Alex (our Lead Machine Learning Research Scientist), and you’ll also be supported by Nitish (our CTO and Co-founder) in our Applied AI tribe. Our tribe is user focused, collaborative, and on a quest for constant learning.

Your place in our palace

As a Senior Machine Learning Research Scientist at Genie AI you’ll focus on Machine Learning (ML) and their applications in legaltech. Some of your key day to day duties include:

• Experiment with cutting-edge Natural Language Processing (NLP) & LLM techniques (e.g. function calling, planning, agent approaches)

• Solve problems by building prototypes and user testing. You are able to decompose complex problems into well thought simple solutions that provide business impact

• Design evaluation protocols and conduct evaluation studies in collaboration with legal experts

• There are no silos here so you’ll collaborate across the whole organisation, communicate novel ideas clearly by writing technical proposals and ideate across teams

• You’ll be part of making sure we have a user focus in collaboration with our design team and we can deploy at scale in partnership with our engineering team

• Keep learning by reading and discussing latest ML papers, and then communicate ML concepts to the rest of the company

Your existing magic to succeed in this role

• Proficient in Python (this one is pretty key to this role)

• Demonstrated ability to work on applied research rather than purely theoretical projects

• Proven ability to manage and execute complex projects, from research to deployment

• ML Tools and Frameworks - you should have experience of some but not necessarily all of the below:

  • Jupyter notebooks, Streamlit

  • numpy, scikit-learn, pandas, matplotlib

  • HuggingFace, SpaCy, NLTK

  • LLM libraries (LangChain, LlamaIndex) and fine-tuning techniques (LoRA, RLHF, DPO)

  • Deep Learning libraries: Pytorch or Tensorflow

• Strong understanding of software development best practices, including version control (Git) and agile methodologies

• MSc required; PhD preferred in Computer Science, Machine Learning, NLP, or a related field
