ASSISTANT GENERAL COUNSEL – TECHNOLOGY, DATA PROTECTION AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

LONDON (HYBRID WORKING – 1-2 DAYS PER WEEK IN THE OFFICE)

PERMANENT ROLE

Role Overview:

Morgan Philips Specialist Recruitment is representing a world-leading professional services firm in their search for an Assistant General Counsel to join their in-house legal team. The candidate should be an experienced commercial lawyer specializing in technology, data privacy, data protection, and AI. The role involves providing practical, business-focused legal advice globally.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide legal support on a wide range of legal and regulatory matters for a global professional services organization.
  • Advise on technology, data privacy, data protection, AI, and related matters; support day-to-day commercial and regulatory legal issues.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and network policies across jurisdictions.
  • Support Technology and Risk Management teams with legal expertise.
  • Develop and implement governance, policies, procedures, and playbooks.
  • Review and advise on new services, solutions, and governance processes, focusing on legal and regulatory issues related to technology, data privacy, data protection, and AI.
  • Manage external legal counsel in multiple jurisdictions efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Provide practical advice balancing risk management and business needs.
  • Present on legal topics and write articles for knowledge sharing.
  • Mentor junior team members.

About You:

  • UK-qualified lawyer with significant experience, preferably from a major law firm or relevant in-house experience.
  • Strong legal skills with the ability to handle complex legal and regulatory issues.
  • Strategic risk management skills with quick issue identification and mitigation recommendations.
  • Experience negotiating, drafting, and reviewing agreements across jurisdictions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, managing complex files and stakeholders.
  • Capable of balancing legal risk and business growth in a fast-paced, global environment.
  • Self-motivated with excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
