ASSISTANT GENERAL COUNSEL – TECHNOLOGY, DATA PROTECTION AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

LONDON (HYBRID WORKING – 1-2 DAYS PER WEEK IN THE OFFICE)

PERMANENT ROLE

Role Overview:

Morgan Philips Specialist Recruitment is representing a leading professional services firm in their search for an Assistant General Counsel to join their in-house legal team. The ideal candidate is an experienced commercial lawyer specializing in technology, data privacy, data protection, and AI. This role involves providing practical legal advice to the business and corporate partners worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal support on various legal and regulatory matters for a global professional services organization.
  • Advise on technology, data privacy, data protection, AI, and related issues; support daily commercial and regulatory legal matters.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations across jurisdictions and network policies.
  • Support the Technology and Risk Management teams with legal expertise.
  • Develop and implement governance policies, procedures, and playbooks.
  • Review and advise on new services, solutions, and governance processes, focusing on technology, data privacy, data protection, and AI.
  • Manage external legal counsel across jurisdictions, ensuring cost-effective and efficient work.
  • Provide practical, business-focused legal advice while managing risk and compliance.
  • Deliver presentations and write articles on legal topics.
  • Mentor and support junior team members.

Candidate Requirements:

  • UK-qualified lawyer (or equivalent outside the UK) with significant experience at a major law firm or relevant in-house experience.
  • Strong legal skills with experience handling complex legal and regulatory issues.
  • Strategic risk management skills with the ability to identify issues and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Experience negotiating, drafting, and reviewing commercial agreements across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Ability to work independently and manage complex files, collaborating effectively with teams.
  • Ability to balance legal risk management with business needs in a fast-growing global environment.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, stakeholder-rich environment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
