This is a newly created position, driven by increased project demand and continued growth within our Digital Services Group. You'll play a key role in delivering advanced data science capabilities, helping customers unlock value from complex datasets through analysis, visualisation, modelling, prediction and AI-driven solutions.

Combining hands-on technical delivery with leadership responsibilities, you'll help shape innovative solutions, mentor colleagues and influence the future direction of our data science capability.

Based at our head office in Little Paxton, St Neots, you'll work alongside a highly skilled team of Data Scientists, Software Engineers and Technical Specialists, delivering innovative solutions for highly secure customers.

This is a full-time on-site role, giving you the opportunity to collaborate closely with colleagues, share knowledge and contribute directly to project delivery within a highly skilled team environment.

How you'll support us

As a Senior Data Scientist, you'll provide technical leadership across a variety of projects, taking ownership of delivery while helping to guide and develop less experienced team members. You'll work closely with project leads and customers to understand complex challenges, develop innovative solutions and ensure high-quality outcomes.

You'll also play an important role in shaping the future of our Data Science capability, identifying opportunities to apply emerging technologies and supporting business growth through technical input into bids and proposals.

Core Responsibilities

Lead the delivery of data science activities in support of a dedicated Test & Evaluation programme.

Define, scope and review tasking for Data Science team members.

Develop analytical, predictive and visualisation solutions using modern data science techniques.

Prototype and evaluate emerging AI and machine learning technologies.

Develop robust, high-quality software applications and tools.

Provide technical guidance and mentoring to colleagues.

Report progress and technical outputs to project stakeholders.

Support business development activities and technical bid responses.

Ensure data science processes and best practices are followed.

The invaluable experience you'll bring, to help us achieve more

We're expecting that you've done this role before, so you'll know how to balance technical delivery with leadership responsibilities whilst managing multiple priorities.

You'll bring strong analytical thinking, a passion for solving complex problems and the ability to communicate technical concepts to a variety of audiences.

Core skills and experience we're looking for:

* Writing scripts to provide insights into complex system performance within high-volume synthetic environments (Python or MATLAB).

* Experience with data transformation and visualisation frameworks.

* Generating GUIs to display key data insights.

* Development of product quality software applications.

* BSc or Master’s degree in a data related subject.

It would be great if you also have:

* A strong background in statistics and data assimilation techniques.

* Prototyping AI/ML techniques (e.g. LLMs and neuromorphic systems).

* Knowledge of Electromagnetic Spectrum systems such as Radar, Electronic Warfare or Jamming technologies.

* An interest in GPU-accelerated architectures and high-performance computing.

* Experience using DevOps and software development tools such as Jira and BitBucket.

Our non-negotiables:

Due to the highly secure nature of the projects you will be involved with, you must be:

* A UK National and eligible to work in the UK

* Eligible to obtain and maintain a UK Government SC level security clearance
