We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join our community of tech experts in DWP Digital.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

  • Lead multiple data science projects to address specific business needs, using the most appropriate techniques, data sources, and technologies.
  • Role-model data science development best practice (e.g., quality assurance of code and ethical considerations of unintended biases) with advanced SQL and Python coding skills.
  • Communicate data-driven insights within a business context clearly and with impact to a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Drive capability development to coach and mentor junior data scientists, keeping abreast of the wider data science landscape and emerging technologies.
  • Academic background in Data Science, Maths, Statistics, or Computer Science or equivalent Data Science-related experience.

You and your role

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will be working on advanced analytics, including machine learning, network analytics, and natural language processing, using Python and SQL along with coding best practices to develop extensible and reusable codebases. You'll also be responsible for the capability development of junior data scientists, as well as collaborating with the wider Data Science and Data community, championing best practices and driving innovation and AI literacy across the organisation.

Location:You'll join us in one of our brilliant digital hubs in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Newcastle, or Sheffield, whichever is most convenient for you.

Hybrid Working:We work a hybrid model - you'll spend some time working at home and some time collaborating face-to-face in a digital hub.

Pay:We offer competitive pay of up to£73,346.

Pension:You'll get a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions worth 28.97%, worth up to£21,196per year.

Holidays:A generous leave package starting at 26 days rising to 31 days over time.

You can also take up to 3 extra days off a month on flexi-time. You'll also get all the usual public holidays.
