Senior AI / Data Science Specialist

Hybrid – 3 days onsite | £80,000 + benefits

Overview

A major customer-focused organisation is expanding its AI capabilities and is building out two key streams:

  1. Traditional ML/Data Science
  2. A new and rapidly growing AI function

This role sits within the AI stream, operating alongside one existing AI specialist but at a slightly more senior and strategic level. You will help shape the organisation’s LLM strategy, conversational AI capabilities, and broader applied AI roadmap.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and enhance LLM-driven tools, including RAG pipelines, embeddings, and prompt engineering.
  • Support and expand the organisation’s chatbot capabilities.
  • Work with unscripted data (text, call transcripts) to define key insights and model outputs.
  • Lead and contribute to the development of evaluation frameworks to measure AI and LLM performance.
  • Operate between AI engineering, ML engineering, and data science teams, helping define and influence wider AI strategy.
  • Collaborate with product, technical, and commercial stakeholders to deliver high-impact AI solutions.

Tech Environment

  • Python
  • LangChain / Langfuse (open to other modern AI frameworks)
  • Azure & Databricks
  • Experience deploying AI/ML models into production
  • Understanding of microservices architectures
  • Strong MLOps practices
  • Experience with conversational AI tools is a plus

About You

  • 5+ years of experience across AI, machine learning, and data science
  • Proven ability to build POCs and move quickly in an applied AI environment
  • Broad exposure across LLMs, model deployment, and DS methodologies
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work with non-technical and senior stakeholders
  • Comfortable operating in a hybrid model (3 days onsite)
  • Experience in customer-focused or high-volume data environments is advantageous

What Is an AI Forward Deployed Engineer? The Fastest-Growing Job in AI for 2026

If you have been watching AI job boards over the past year, one title keeps surfacing again and again: the forward deployed engineer, or FDE. It has gone from a niche term known mainly to Palantir alumni to arguably the hottest role in the entire AI hiring market. Job postings for forward deployed engineers have exploded, salaries have climbed past levels most software engineers will ever see, and the biggest names in AI — OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Salesforce, Databricks and Palantir — are all competing for the same small pool of talent. So what exactly is an AI forward deployed engineer, why has demand surged so dramatically, and how do you position yourself to land one of these roles? This guide breaks it all down for AI engineers, software engineers and data scientists looking at their next move.
