Detailed Job Description

Overview

Join a leading global investment bank undergoing a major AI-driven transformation across its research function. This role sits at the intersection of advanced engineering, machine learning, and front-office research, with a focus on redefining how financial insights are created, analyzed, and distributed through cutting-edge AI solutions.

Role Purpose

As a forward-deployed AI specialist, you will design, prototype, and deliver innovative AI and LLM-based applications that directly enhance research workflows. You will work hands-on with business users to identify high-impact opportunities, rapidly build proof-of-concepts, and shape scalable solutions that integrate into enterprise platforms.

Key Responsibilities

AI Innovation & Prototyping

  • Rapidly move ideas from concept to production-ready prototypes across AI/ML and LLM use cases
  • Design and build agentic and multi-agent systems to enhance research workflows
  • Demonstrate measurable business value through functional prototypes, demos, and KPIs
  • Identify opportunities to embed AI across research discovery, content generation, and distribution

Front Office Engagement

  • Partner directly with research analysts, sector specialists, and leadership to understand workflows and challenges
  • Translate business requirements into technical solutions with clear impact
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Support analysts with AI-enabled tools for financial modelling, data analysis, and insight generation

Engineering & Architecture

  • Develop robust, scalable architectures for AI applications in cloud environments
  • Build solutions using modern engineering best practices, including modular design and containerization
  • Integrate AI applications with existing data pipelines, systems, and publishing platforms
  • Ensure solutions are production-ready, observable, and maintainable within regulated environments

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with engineering, product, and data platform teams to scale successful prototypes
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across trading, portfolio management, and client-facing teams
  • Contribute to the broader AI strategy within research and the investment bank

Required Skills & Experience

Technical Expertise

  • Strong programming skills in Python with solid software engineering foundations
  • Experience with at least one compiled language (e.g. Java, C++)
  • Deep knowledge of cloud platforms, particularly AWS services across compute, storage, data, and ML
  • Proven experience building AI/ML systems, including LLMs and agent-based architectures
  • Understanding of system design, distributed systems, and production deployment

AI & Machine Learning

  • Hands-on experience developing and deploying ML models and LLM applications
  • Familiarity with agentic frameworks, orchestration, and tool-calling systems
  • Ability to evaluate model performance and demonstrate business impact

Business & Communication

  • Ability to work directly with business users and translate needs into technical solutions
  • Strong stakeholder management skills across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience articulating complex ideas to senior leadership

Architecture & Delivery

  • Experience deploying solutions within enterprise or regulated environments
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including debugging and root cause analysis
  • Understanding of data pipelines and integration with large-scale systems

Desirable Experience

  • Background in financial services, investment research, or capital markets
  • Understanding of financial modelling techniques (e.g. DCF, portfolio optimisation)
  • Experience with data platforms, data mesh architectures, or data products
  • Familiarity with containerization (e.g. Kubernetes) and modern deployment practices
  • Knowledge of emerging AI trends including agentic systems and multi-agent collaboration

What Makes This Role Unique

  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI applications at the forefront of financial research
  • High visibility role with direct impact on front-office workflows and client outputs
  • Blend of hands-on engineering, strategic thinking, and business engagement
  • Collaborative environment with exposure to senior stakeholders and decision-makers
  • Ability to shape the future of AI adoption within a global investment bank

Career Opportunity

This position offers a unique pathway for experienced engineers or AI specialists who want to combine deep technical expertise with real-world impact in financial markets. You will play a critical role in driving innovation and setting the direction for next-generation AI solutions in research.

Where to Advertise AI Jobs in the UK (2026 Guide)

Where to advertise AI jobs UK in 2026: the specialist boards and communities that reach AI engineers, ML scientists and applied research talent in the UK. The candidate pool is small, highly informed and in demand across multiple sectors simultaneously. General job boards reach a broad audience but lack the specificity that AI professionals expect — and the filtering mechanisms they rely on. Specialist platforms, direct outreach and academic channels each serve a different part of the market. This guide, published by ArtificialIntelligenceJobs.co.uk, covers where to advertise AI roles in the UK in 2026, how the main platforms compare, what employers should expect to pay, and what the data says about time-to-hire across different role types.
