Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated experienced Podiatrist to join our friendly team within NELFT.

 Our Podiatry Department is a forward thinking, busy service providing Podiatry Services within Havering and Barking and Dagenham. The population that we serve is both multi-cultural and diverse.

We work in a variety of locations including community, hospital and domiciliary settings anda car is therefore essential to this role.

 Our client base is primarily high-risk and you will be responsible for treatment planning for foot complications associated with diabetic, rheumatoid and vascular / ischaemic long-term conditions.

 We are committed to CPD and training initiatives to achieve personal as well as service objectives.

 In addition you will be given the opportunity to develop a special clinical interest by rotation into specialist areas such as Wound care, Biomechanics and Nail Surgery.

 We also support the training of Podiatry students and our Podiatrists are actively involved in a clinical educator programme with the University of East London.

Main duties of the job

Therefore if you work well under pressure, enjoy assessing and treating high-risk patients with challenging foot problems and have excellent communication skills, this job could be for you!

Are flexible and can demonstrate initiative, and enjoy working as part of a team. Have good organisational and clinical skills, and are keen to support clinical excellence by developing "best practice". Are committed to robust assessment, treatment planning and patient discharge. Are keen to undertake audit and research.

The post holder will be responsible for general podiatric services and will act as a Podiatrist in NELFT and will be clinically responsible for community and domiciliary services provided to patients in NELFT, primarily based in Barking & Dagenham and Havering, but may be required to work in other NELFT podiatry teams.

The post holder will be a member of the team who has specialist general skills and will be responsible for providing evidence based comprehensive assessment and diagnosis based on clinical findings and support the team by delivering general and high risk podiatry care within a variety of care pathways, working within codes of practice and professional guidelines.

Will provide training and education opportunities for other health professionals and patients to promote an understanding of foot care and self-care including falls prevention.

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).


Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement – London
This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,551 to a maximum of £5,735).

Will undertake a predominantly high-risk clinical role at any locality according to current priority / demand on the service including assessment and treatment of patients with multiple pathologies formulating treatment plans based on clinical findings.

To be responsible for managing and prioritising your own day to day work load.
2. Attend regular CPD events and participate in departmental team meetings.
3. To participate and contribute to departmental clinical audit and Research initiatives.
4. Will be flexible and show initiative in coping with changing circumstances relating to day 
to day planning of clinical duties.
5. Will have the ability to mentor and supervise podiatry students and podiatry assistants 
demonstrating clinical skills and procedures.
6. To have an understanding of the service performance targets.
7. To take responsibility for monitoring stock levels and security of stock and maintenance 
of equipment within your own clinical area ensuring stock is ordered when required.

Registration / Qualification

Essential criteria

Must hold valid HCPC Registration Must hold BSc / Diploma in Podiatry/ Podiatric Medicine/Podiatry (Pre-Registration) MSc Must hold Certificate in Local Anaesthetic Must hold Certificate in Prescription Only Medicines

Experience

Essential criteria

Minimum of 1 year post-graduate NHS Podiatry experience Be able to work autonomously and as part of a team Excellent communication skills across internal and external boundaries Experience of governance , quality and audit Basic IT skills

Desirable criteria

Experience of multi-agency working Awareness of current NHS stratergy

Applicant will need to be car driver with valid UK Licence (this criteria will be reasonable adjusted to meet the requirements of a disabled applicant) and access to a car for work purposes. As they will need to travel throughout the area and provide podiatry for a domiciliary high risk caseload
