DESCRIPTION

The role is a 2-year fixed-term contract.

GTTS builds products that help Amazon run the world's largest transportation network, using cutting-edge technologies and machine learning, all running on AWS. We are looking for someone who is passionate about technology, loves solving customer problems, and delivers the high-quality work that we expect for critical systems at Amazon.
In GTTS, we embody the culture of a scale-up but still assume the responsibility of building and running products at the scale and criticality of Amazon. We follow agile development practices, working closely with customers, failing fast, and continually looking for new ideas from within and outside Amazon. We proactively deprecate legacy systems to reduce the burden of technical debt and regularly develop new greenfield products.
As a Software Development Engineer (SDE) in GTTS, you will work on challenging engineering problems, processing large datasets, and building products that are performant, scalable, and robust to support critical transportation processes. You will build web applications that delight our customers and complex data pipelines to process the data that serves them. We will give you the space to explore new technologies and approaches and apply them to customer problems. We build products that solve customer problems and have a direct (financial) impact on the transportation network. We always work backward from the customer.
As an SDE, you provide technical leadership at Amazon. You help establish technical standards and drive Amazon's overall technical architecture, engineering practices, and methodologies. You think globally when building systems, ensuring Amazon builds high-performing, scalable systems that work well together. You are hands-on, producing both detailed technical work and high-level designs.
In GTTS, we operate the products that we build. During the on-call week, you will provide front-line support if any critical issues arise with the team's products.

Key job responsibilities

  1. Working with AWS technologies such as Lambda, ECS Fargate, API Gateway, RDS, DynamoDB, EMR
  2. Building customer-facing applications and APIs
  3. Building data pipelines using Spark + Scala that process TB of data per day
  4. Working with customers to understand the business context of new features
  5. Participating in design reviews and consulting with engineering peers
  6. Participating in operational support for our products by joining a regular on-call rotation
  7. Driving reliability and process improvements
  8. Optimizing the performance of pipelines using metrics
  9. Participating in regular hackathons to bring new ideas to GTTS

About the team

Our products cover the design of the topology of the network, automatic management of transportation capacity, and the identification and mitigation of risks such as insufficient capacity or weather disruption. We interact closely with customers in transport operations, finance, and customer fulfillment. We have development teams in Luxembourg and the UK (London).
