This is an exciting time to be working in public health intelligence, as we innovate with data science approaches, support the recovery of the population of Wales from the Covid-19 pandemic, and analyse the impact of the cost of living crisis on health and wellbeing.

Along with our Principal and Advanced Analysts, you will support the development of Analysts within the team through both line management and the provision of in-house training and advice. Working with other team members you will be responsible contributing to and leading the development of public health intelligence products such as reports and dashboards, responding to requests and advising colleagues in other parts of the organisation and beyond regarding health intelligence matters

Main duties of the job

As a senior member of the team, your role will be wide-ranging and demand a broad set of skills. You will lead important projects, and project teams, using an Agile approach. You will negotiate with a range of internal and external stakeholders and you will apply your technical expertise and public health knowledge to the development of quality-assured analytical products that meet our users' needs. You will also take on a technical leadership role for particular datasets or analytical techniques. Crucially, you will support the development of our more junior analysts, through both line management and the provision of in-house training and advice.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Educated to Degree level or equivalent, in a relevant discipline

Desirable

A Master of Public Health or equivalent qualification

Experience

Essential

Experience of communicating complex information to a non-technical audience Experience of performing complex analytical tasks and creating outputs for use by others

Desirable

Report writing and presentation skills Experience in utilising complex datasets related to population health Familiarity with medical terminology and coding systems, eg, ICD-10, SNOMED-CT

Knowledge

Essential

Clear understanding of current and ongoing issues affecting public health. Knowledge of information governance and confidentiality issues. Knowledge and experience of statistical techniques and procedures including their application to public health intelligence.

Skills

Essential

Advanced IT skills with experience of using Microsoft Office applications - and particularly advanced MS Excel knowledge. Knowledge and experience of specialist computer software, such as R studio, SQL, Statistical or GIS systems, for the production of complex analyses of public health and related data.

Desirable

Knowledge and experience of statistical techniques and procedures including their application to public health intelligence.
