About the role
This senior data scientist role is to deliver high quality data science solutions to complex business problems. Working across machine learning and other projects, the role is technical in nature but with business value as a key deliverable.
The role holder should be able to own key projects end to end independently from the scoping to the delivery.
This person is expected to contribute to the development of and mentor more junior colleagues, sharing their knowledge across the team frequently.
Responsibilities
- Deliver impactful and effective machine learning projects to support the commercial success of the business by applying advanced data science techniques.
- Evolve and continuously improve the company’s data science models using advanced analytic and machine learning techniques.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the overall data science strategy.
- Be a key contributor to the ongoing development of the decision science team, supporting other team members in their development.
- Understand business problems and develop solutions to solve them both collaboratively and independently.
- Ensure models created are fair to the customer both in input, modelling and output.
Requirements
- As a senior data scientist, the role holder will need strong machine learning, statistical and programming knowledge. You should be an expert in and promote the best data science practices.
- A master of industry standard modelling techniques.
- Understand and utilise cloud platforms such as AWS and Databricks. As well as some data engineering and data mining skills.
- In-depth knowledge of multiple projects within the team’s domain as well as the ability to intersect with other business functions.
- Good commercial acumen understanding many aspects of how an insurance company works across multiple domains, as well as key drivers of performance.
