About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join our team on a permanent basis, working on a high-profile UK Government programme. You'll apply your expertise in data engineering and software development to solve complex data challenges, supporting critical infrastructure and decision-making through scalable, secure, and innovative data solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Design and lead implementation of data pipelines from operational systems to BI and analytics platforms
Build, maintain, and operate scalable data environments and real-time data streaming systems
Diagnose and optimise performance and reliability issues in data processes
Evaluate new tools and technologies to enhance platform capabilities
Architect and support data analytics solutions, ensuring best practices are followed
Lead and support efforts in data migration, integration, and processing workflows
Contribute to project planning, risk identification, and mitigation strategies

Skills & Experience - Essential

Strong hands-on experience with ETL tools such as SSIS, AWS Glue, or Azure Data Factory
Proven background in setting up/administering cloud-based data platforms (AWS or Azure)
Proficient in data analytics services such as Power BI or Pentaho BA
Experience working in Agile environments with cross-functional teams
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Working knowledge of Python and associated libraries for data processing and machine learning
Comfortable with task estimation and dependency mapping

Desirable Skills

Familiarity with Hadoop, Jenkins, or Java
AWS or Azure certifications
