The shift pattern for this position is 3 days - pattern to be confirmed

 (Please note the salary is Pro Rata) for part time hours.

We are looking for a Senior Health Care Support Worker (SHCSW) to join the West Dunbartonshire Community Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy Team, Specialist Children’s Services NHS GG&C. Permanent position – 3 days / 22.2 hours per week based at Aurora House, Clydebank. The SHCSW is an essential member of the SLT team, providing advice and support to families and direct intervention to children and young people who access the service. We deliver our service in clinics, schools, nurseries and other community settings across WD and the post holder will access supervision, CPD and support from senior staff as required.

You should have
1. Ability to demonstrate knowledge to enable SLT interventions to be modified and to develop individual and group activities to meet client needs. This can be demonstrated by Speech and Language Therapy HNC or relevant formal training to diploma level Or SVQ 111 Allied Health Professional Support (SLT) plus formal training to diploma level equivalent
In addition you should have:
In-depth knowledge of communication development.

Knowledge of disability and its impact on clients, families and carers. Skills to engage and motivate clients with speech, language and communication needs including children with additional support needs and/or challenging behaviour. Knowledge of a range of therapeutic strategies/techniques used to address speech, language and communication needs, including phonetic and language transcriptions and analysis.

2. Previous experience of working with children with speech, language and communication needs.
3. Evidence of having attended relevant short courses and study days.
4. Knowledge of national and local policies relating to clients with communication impairments.
5. Competent in the use of standard Information Technology.

You should have a current driving licence

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
