Overview
Research Associate in Artificial Intelligence at UNSW. The Opportunity: The Faculty of Engineering is offering an opportunity for a Research Associate. In this role, you will conduct both independent and collaborative research activities to advance your expertise in Cognitive Robotics and Knowledge Representation and Reasoning/Neuro-Symbolic AI. This position offers an opportunity to advance scholarly research and professional activities both nationally and internationally. You will contribute to writing scientific papers and reports for international journals, participate in conferences and workshops, and actively engage with industry partners. This role reports to Professor Maurice Pagnucco, Deputy Dean (Education), Faculty of Engineering, and has no direct reports.
Responsibilities
- Conduct independent and collaborative research in Cognitive Robotics and Knowledge Representation and Reasoning/Neuro-Symbolic AI.
- Contribute to writing scientific papers and reports for international journals.
- Participate in conferences and workshops and engage with industry partners.
Qualifications
- PhD (or soon to be awarded) in knowledge representation and reasoning (artificial intelligence) or neurosymbolic AI or related area.
- Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research and conduct independent research with limited supervision.
- Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
- Evidence of highly developed interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.

- Salary: AUD$113,911 to $121,838 per annum + 17% superannuation
