In addition to third-party trading, Petroineos Trading's key functions include the supply of Crude Oil to Petroineos and PetroChina refineries and the arrangement of the sale and distribution of the various products that are produced from the refineries. The Company’s trading activities are now covering more than 100 kinds of products and through merger, acquisition, investment and equity participation, several business centres have been formed and integrated with storage facilities, refining capabilities, oil tanks and terminals as well as transportation capabilities in global main oil producing areas. All these investments provide strong support for the steady development of the Company’s international businesses.


Who You Are / Your Next Challenge

We have a fantastic opportunity for a results driven, confident and commercial individual to join Petroineos Trading Limited (London) as a Quantitative Researcher (QR) based in our London office. The position will be part of an efficient and collaborative global systematic trading team.


The QR will focus on supporting Traders (Crude) to develop and optimise trading models, conduct research and coordinate with fundamental analyst to fine tune insights into the market. This will include developing AI and mathematical models to interpret market behaviour and generate trading signals, conducting research and analysis to detect market regime and identify market inefficiencies, work in collaboration with trader and strategies to back-test trading strategies using historical data to evaluate performance and robustness including the coordination with fundamental analyst to contribute fundamental opinions and assumptions.


What we’re looking for / Skills that will help you in the role

  • programming skills using Python and experience of utilising large data sets (if you have proven additional skills using C++ / C# will be seen as advantageous).
  • experience viewing fundamental issues from a dynamic perspective of connection and development and being able to formulate assumptions.
  • working in a quantitative trading / analysis type role with a job focus on energy markets, machine learning, statistical techniques and related libraries would be highly valued.
  • work experience in small, high-performance teams a distinct advantage.
  • quantitative, numerical, and analytical skills.
  • thinking, practical problem solving.
  • positive attitude, highly self-motivating and able to manage stress are key characteristics for this role.
  • innovation, decisiveness, planning and control.
  • good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • in Microsoft Office, standard software and software dedicated to the trading activities.
  • of stochastic modelling techniques such as sensitivity analysis or Monte Carlo simulation

Please note: This is a full-time, 12 months fixed-term contract position with the job based in Charing Cross, London.
