This is an exciting opportunity to work with the Quality and Safety team leading on Perinatal Mortality Review workstreams. This work underpins many service and quality improvements occurring within maternity and neonatal services and shows opportunity for personal development and leadership within a forward looking team.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 6 months due to the post being recruited as part of a limited term project within the Trust. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts taking into consideration the requirement for the post to be maintained as a part of the project’s implementation and the timescales associated with this.

Please also note any secondment must first be agreed with your current line manager.

Main duties of the job

Work in partnership with women and families, PMRT team, Quality and Safety team and maternity multidisciplinary team to create an environment in which improving the quality of service delivered is paramount. Support the team to ensure all governance arrangements and reporting structures are in place and effective. Ensure data entry of all perinatal deaths eligible for PMRT.
Effective communication with bereaved families and seek/promote their feedback as part of the review. Prepare and present case reviews and learning at unit meetings. Promote sharing of findings, learning and actions from the case reviews. Ensure liaison with other maternity providers to promote external review of cases. Maintenance the review tracker and escalate any time pressures or themes to the Lead Midwife. Utilise leadership, communication, influencing and negotiating skills in the provision of advice, support and guidance to the multidisciplinary team to ensure that learning from incidents makes a positive difference to patient safety. Ensure the compliance of all relevant Trust wide policies and guidelines within Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology and that all safety alerts are disseminated in a timely manner and any actions are reported. Regularly attend Maternity Quality and Safety meetings and provide specialist patient safety and quality improvement advice

The Directorate of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology is based at the Jessop Wing which is linked to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. The maternity unit has over 6800 births per year and is a Regional Tertiary Maternity Service with a Level 3 Neonatal Unit of 44 cots. A tertiary Gynae-Oncology service and a changing Gynaecology Service, which includes an Assisted Conception Unit, complete the services within the Directorate.

Educations and Qualifications

Essential criteria

Registered Midwife with current NMC registration To have completed the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998. First Degree or equivalent level of knowledge and experience gained in a relevant environment Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable criteria

Evidence of experience with use of Perinatal Mortality Review Tool Evidence of investigation training / qualification Evidence of operational / health and safety risk management

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria

Experienced clinical midwife with range of knowledge and experiences Demonstrates a broad knowledge of current maternity issues incorporating quality and safety agenda Proven experience of working with multidisciplinary team on providing high quality personalised care Able to show kindness and compassion when speaking to families and staff

Desirable criteria

Experience of risk management process, completing investigations, actioning improvements, and shared learning Working knowledge of Datix reporting system, audit, creation of patient information, guidelines, national reporting and learning structures Working knowledge of PSIRF/ LFPSE

Skills

Essential criteria

Excellent communication and presentation skills, written and verbal – confident to deliver presentations to 1:1 or larger group Computer skill – IT literacy skills in clinical systems credible with Word, Excel, Powerpoint, MS Teams Able to prioritise and organise work appropriately Able to work independently delivering targets with agreed timescales and managing workloads requiring an immediate response Ability to form positive relationships at all levels, working within a multi-professional team Is analytical and intuitive. Persuasion and influencing skills – ability to present ideas and proposals effectively.. Cares about and knows the importance of doing the right thing and making a difference
