  • Role Overview

As aLead Software QA Engineerat Aqovia, you will take on a critical dual role in both contributing hands-on software engineering projects and leading our Quality Assurance Chapter. 

As a contributor on an engineering project you will work, day-to-day, in a cross-functional squads practising DevSecOps squads. Your role will be to act as the quality ‘gate-keeper’. You will be involved through the full software lifecycle from analysing requirements through release engineering and production support. 

As a chapter lead, you will act as a servant-leader of the  QA engineers, shaping standardised QA practices to ensure we are scalable, efficient and aligned to industry best practices. In particular, you will champion a ‘shift left’ approach to QA and relentless focus on automation across the discipline. You will also provide mentoring to other QA engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the servant-leader for the QA chapter, fostering collaboration and standardisation across QA engineers working on different projects and squads.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to QA engineers across various teams to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Direct Involvement in projects and as an individual contributor: participate in agile ceremonies (sprint planning, 3 amigos, retrospectives, etc), performing hands-on exploratory testing, designing and implementing test cases, and collaborating with team members to meet project timelines and quality goals.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and continuous learning within the chapter and more widely in the company, facilitating training sessions, workshops, and tech talks.
  • Drive the evolution of QA as a discipline within the company, focusing on continuous improvement, defining standards, the adoption of modern, automated testing techniques and a shift-left approach.
  • Act as a point of contact for technical leads, product owners, and stakeholders for all things related to QA and testing.
  • Continuously improve the QA process by integrating feedback, metrics, and new testing tools/technologies.
  • Define and measure key QA metrics such as test coverage, defect leakage rates, test execution times, and regression rates.
  • Communicate progress and challenges with company-wide QA practices to senior management and project stakeholders.

Requirements

Technical Skills:

  • Extensive QA Experience:Minimum of 8+ years of experience in software quality assurance, with 3+ years in a lead role, including hands-on testing and individual contributor responsibilities.
  • Automation Expertise:Strong knowledge of managing, implementing and reporting on cases in a fully automation fashion as part of CI pipelines. This must including using web automation testing frameworks preferably Playwright.Sh as (e.g., Selenium,, JUnit, TestNG, or similar).
  • Test Management Tools:Proficiency in using tools like JIRA, TestRail, or similar for managing test cases and reporting.
  • Programming Languages:Experience with one or more programming languages such as C#,Python and JavaScript.
  • Agile Methodologies:Familiar with working in truly agile development practices and committed to lean and agile engineering practices. 
  • Testing Types:Strong experience in functional, regression, data validation, performance, security, and API testing.


Soft Skills:

  • Analytical Mindset:Ability to think critically and analytically to diagnose issues, troubleshoot failures, and optimise processes.
  • Professional communicationskills are essential. Candidates must possess excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively manage business interactions and maintain a professional tone in all commercial correspondence.
  • Collaboration:Demonstrated success working cross-functionally with development, DevOps, and product teams to deliver high-quality software.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field(or equivalent practical experience).
  • Experience with cloud environments (Azure, Azure, GCP) and related testing strategies. 
  • ISTQB Certification or other relevant QA certifications.
  • Experience of release engineering. 
  • Experience with mobile testing (iOS/Android) and web applications. 
  • Experience of testing data integrations / transformations / AI models
