IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is the world’s most popular high stakes English test used for immigration, employment and education. If a non-native English speaker wants to study in or immigrate to an English speaking country, there is a good chance they have to take IELTS. It is the gate to the future for many people.

We’re looking for Lead ML Engineer to come on board and bring AI/ML in house for our business and help us add more AI driven functionality to our app.

What you’ll be doing

Our app,IELTS Flexhelps students prepare for these IELTS English language tests and we’ve created an AI model that is used to assess students tests and provide feedback. This is much more effective than off the shelf LLMs or ChatGPT. We want you to come on board to own and optimise this model moving forward, as well as work on new and state of the art projects to further develop the app’s AI capabilities.

As the Lead ML Engineer you’ll own all things AI & ML for our business, you’ll have a consultancy partner to lean on for extra resource and we plan to grow a small team around you to deliver further AI & ML projects for us. You’ll work end to end across the whole ML lifecycle from research to deployment and post-deployment optimisation.

You’ll be working on projects using LLMs, NLP libraries such as spaCy, Hugging Face transformers, recommender systems, researching speech to text and text to speech problems and more as the business develops.

Working alongside our in-house software engineering team and closely with the leadership team in the business, you’ll be instrumental in our technology progress and ensuring that IELTS FLEX is the best it can possibly be for our users and customers. With over 500,000 users and growing, you’ll make a real difference to their experience.

What experience you’ll need to apply:

• Solid experience leading ML projects from research/ideation through to deployment
• Strong background in LLMs & NLP
• Experience working with the Azure ecosystem
• Strong Python development skills
• Ability to take research and apply commercially
• Excellent communication skills
• Team player who can work independently when necessary
