The Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Head of Product and Engineering to develop our software engineering strategy, aligned to business goals and objectives. You will lead our engineering team in building our web-based applications and cloud platform solutions, including our internal tools, as well as owning and optimising our GCP spend.

You will be responsible for supporting our Software Engineers, providing guidance, feedback, and coaching, as well as effectively planning workloads to deliver technical solutions. We are looking for someone for whom planning and communication - to the engineering team and wider business - is second nature.

You will also define and refine our core products and ensure they are maximally valuable to our clients. Ideally, you will have experience working in content and data products for Financial Services clients, with a focus on AI and emerging technologies.

This is an extremely exciting greenfield opportunity, where you can shape our entire line of products and drive technical direction in a fast-growing organisation. As in any start-up, this role will require you to be a hands-on leader, but also set the vision and direction as we look to grow our product and engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

1. Partner with other leaders in the business to define, build and own the technical strategy that aligns with the business objectives.
2. Oversee the development and infrastructure of our web solutions and internal tools.
3. Manage the Software Engineering team - including technical leadership, workload planning, recruitment and professional development.
4. Work cross-collaboratively with all other Evident teams to gather requirements and define upcoming product releases.
5. Lead on the implementation of best practices and high-quality code standards.
6. Communicate the technical strategy, roadmap, status, risks and opportunities to the wider business.
7. Work closely with our co-founders, as well as customers and clients, to map requirements and build user stories.
8. Own our GCP infrastructure, optimising for security and cost.
9. Direct the product roadmap, prioritise features and coordinate product schedules with the wider business.
10. Continuously assess systems, solutions and business processes and look for improvements.

Core Skills

1. Significant experience in software engineering, with at least 1+ years in a managerial or leadership role.
2. Proven track record of building and leading high-performing engineering teams.
3. Experience owning product roadmaps.
4. Strong technical expertise in building scalable systems.
5. Proficiency in Django (Python) and knowledge of React.
6. Experience in managing and building with the GCP suite of services (App Engine and GKE are very beneficial).
7. Excellent project management, communication and interpersonal skills, with experience in Agile methodologies.
8. Knowledge of and experience implementing cloud security best practices.
9. Significant experience in product development and management.
10. Ability to translate business strategy into product strategy.
11. Track record of executing product strategy, product launches and contributing to go-to-market strategy.

Nice to have

1. Experience working in a startup/small team.
2. Experience working in a DevOps environment.
3. Experience managing product profitability and commercial success (owning the business case).
4. Understanding of the key issues facing leadership teams in global companies on topics related to artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.
5. Building products in any of the below:
6. Start-up environment.
7. Market research/media company.
8. Consulting in Financial Services companies on topics such as AI and digital transformation.
