The Opportunity

EDF Wholesale Market Services (WMS) is a core business line within the EDF UK Customers Business that is at the centre of helping Britain achieve Net Zero. It provides industry leading wholesale market services to EDF’s supply and generation business units and to third party energy asset owners. The team operates in a broad and diverse range of market segments including residential & business supply, nuclear, renewable & thermal generation and storage & flexible energy.

This role sits within the Volume Forecasting Systems team, and they are responsible for re-platforming and enhancing our Volume Forecasting systems to further enable our market leading performance.

We are looking for a talented Data Scientist to join the team and help develop our forecasting models to minimise business cost and maximise forecast accuracy.

What you’ll be doing

As the Data Scientist, you will be responsible for maintaining and supporting development of accurate B2B and Residential Volume Forecasting models, optimizing performance and minimizing business costs in our new cloud-based system, utilising data science tools such as Amazon SageMaker and Python/R.

You will work collaboratively with a variety of teams across the wider WMS business to ensure best practice is adopted to design, build, deploy, and manage our forecasting models utilising new infrastructure.

With your experience in data science, you will support the team in making best use of the new machine learning, data science and model management capabilities whilst ensuring new learning and ways of working are embedded into the team. Your initial focus for the role will be migrating existing models into our new Python based AWS Data Science environment.

Who you are

We are looking for somebody with exceptional numerical and mathematical abilities, along with a comprehensive understanding of the UK energy markets, to bring valuable skills to our team.

You will demonstrate strong analytical skills and the ability to solve complex problems and provide insightful solutions. Proficiency in modelling is essential for this role, with expertise in coding using SQL, Python and R is also essential. Familiarity with Machine Learning operations, Snowflake and an AWS centric tech-stack would be an advantage.

To excel in this role, technical competencies are essential, but equally important are the behaviours and approach you bring to your work. We look for people who are collaborative, inclusive, and able to manage outcomes while taking ownership of their projects. A key component of success will be your ability to adapt to new challenges, demonstrating a strong commitment to continuous improvement.
