Job summary

As a Data Manager you will be part of a dynamic team responsible for delivering the development, management, and coordination of vaccine uptake surveillance systems for vaccine preventable diseases.

Immunisation Programmes Division

The Immunisation programmes division is responsible for providing technical support and clinical expertise to the Department of Health and Social Care and to NHSE and the NHS in planning and implementation of the national immunisation programmes.

The division evaluates the programmes by generating high quality data on vaccine coverage. Surveillance of vaccine coverage data are vital components of the evaluation of vaccination programmes in the UK. These data inform the understanding of the public health impact of vaccination programmes and help develop and improve control strategies. The division also provides secretariat to the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation who would recommend any changes to the national programme. The division also oversees the national distribution and clinical use of immunoglobulins.

Main duties of the job

The main responsibilities of the post holder will be to maintain and develop vaccine uptake surveillance systems for preventable diseases and linked datasets used to monitor vaccine safety and effectiveness, working closely with a wide variety of professionals from both within and outside UKHSA to ensure high quality data. They will be responsible for the move to automation of the production of regular outputs from these systems for inclusion in routine national and international reports and generate data for ad hoc requests and information requests from government. The role requires liaising with stakeholders within the organisation and outside to support effective decision making through data reporting, quality assurance and standards processes. It involves developing working relationships with other health professional groups both within UKHSA, NHS England (NHSE) and the NHS at various levels to manage and source data and information, in the context of a rapidly changing data environment. The post holder will have strong data management skills, ideally with experience in immunisation data and manging a small team. They must have excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively both autonomously and within a team.

Job responsibilities

As Data Manager you will be involved in:

Applying analytical methods to potentially highly complex surveillance data from a variety of sources as requested Planning, organising and delivering on a range of data requests requiring analytic input, including negotiating and agreeing the most appropriate data output, initiating and planning workloads and setting delivery timescales for the team Turn data products and data visualisation products for publication and analysis; effectively communicate specialist information with colleagues Perform all work in cognisance of data protection requirements and the need to maintain confidentiality and security of surveillance information Working collaboratively as part of the analytical capability across the product life cycle. Assisting colleagues in the delivery of the analytical work programme and also with colleagues in other analytical teams in UKHSA as required. You understand and can make use of different tools for automation, and you can compare different data models Using a variety of methods including written briefings and oral presentations to communicate the implications of public health analytical outputs for action to improve local population health to stakeholders from a range of backgrounds

Eligibility Criteria

External

Location

This role is being offered as hybrid working based at our lab/office in Colindale, London. We offer great flexible working opportunities at UKHSA and operate using a hybrid working model where business needs allow. This provides us with greater flexibility about how and where we work, to get the best from our workforce. As a hybrid worker, you will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of your contractual working hours (approximately 3 days a week pro rata, (averaged over a month).

Security Clearance Level Requirement

Successful candidates must pass a disclosure and barring security check.

If based at one of our scientific locations you will be required to have a Counter Terrorism Check security vetting check as a minimum. For meaningful National Security Vetting checks to be carried out individuals need to have lived in the UK for a sufficient period of time. You should normally have been resident in the United Kingdom for the last 3 years as the role requires Counter Terrorism Check (CTC) clearance. In exceptional circumstances UK residency lessthan the outlined periods may not necessarily bar you from gaining national security vetting and applicants should contact the Vacancy Holder/Recruiting Manager listed in the advert for further advice.

A degree in a maths or science subject or significant experience of working at a similar level in data analysis/data management
