Brief intro to the role:
TransferRoom is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Data Engineering Lead to steer the development of our Data Engineering strategy. Your contributions will have a direct impact on the success of our product and business.
What you’ll be doing:
- Architect & Lead our Data Engineering Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive Data Engineering strategy and infrastructure that enhances TransferRoom’s platform efficiency and data-driven decision-making.
- Design & Build Scalable Data Solutions: Create and maintain scalable data pipelines that ensure seamless integration, processing, and management of large datasets.
- ETL Expertise:Design and enhance our ETL processes, ensuring data integrity and efficiency across all stages.
- DataOps:Leverage the full suite of cloud based data tooling to manage data storage, analytics, and integration, while optimising for performance and security.
- Performance Optimisation:Tune and optimise T-SQL queries, ensuring high performance and responsiveness in data retrieval and manipulation.
- Data Governance & Security:Ensure data governance, with a focus on compliance (e.g., GDPR), data security, and privacy. Implement robust backup, recovery, and data masking strategies.
- Collaboration:Work cross-functionally with teams, providing strategic insights on data solutions, tools, and best practices to drive business growth.

Required skills and experience:
- Extensive experience in Data Engineering:Demonstrated experience in building, maintaining, and scaling large-scale data infrastructures.
- Expert in T-SQL & Performance Tuning: Strong proficiency in T-SQL, including optimisation and query performance tuning.
- SQL Server Expertise:Hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server, t-SQL, performance running and query optimization.
- Python Proficiency:Strong programming skills in Python, used for automation, scripting, and data manipulation.
- ETL knowledge: Extensive experience with ETL process design, implementation, and optimisation.
- Data Architecture Knowledge: A solid understanding of designing scalable data systems that can handle growing datasets and complex workflows.
- Communication Skills:Strong ability to convey complex technical concepts to stakeholders and work effectively in a fast-paced, agile environment.
Additional desired skills and experience:
- Experience in working with Azure DevOps & Azure Pipelines or equivalent CI/CD tooling
