About TraitSeq

Born as a spin-out from the Earlham Institute on the Norwich Research Park, TraitSeq is leveraging proprietary machine learning algorithms to optimise the development of future agricultural products through the prediction of complex biological traits. As we develop our computational platform, we enable our agritech partners to accelerate the development of agrochemicals, biologicals, and gene edits, enhancing food security and agricultural sustainability. Backed by venture capital investors and having secured significant grants from Innovate UK, we are in a strong position to continue growing our team.

We're Hiring: Bioinformatician

Join our dynamic team as a Bioinformatician where you will play a pivotal role in delivering commercial projects, refining methodologies, and managing extensive omic datasets. Collaborate with experts in machine learning, bioinformatics, and plant biology to shape the future of our technology and its applications across various agricultural subsectors.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop and run pipelines for RNA-Seq data processing and analysis.
  • Conduct both statistical and supervised machine learning analyses of high-dimensional datasets to tackle specific biological questions.
  • Innovate and enhance our bioinformatics and analysis pipelines to improve performance and increase functionality.
  • Utilise high-performance computing resources to efficiently execute research tasks.
  • Actively contribute to technical team discussions with creative and problem-solving insights.
  • Present the results of your analysis to commercial clients and colleagues in a clear, understandable way.

Essential Skills:

  • Proven expertise in bioinformatics, particularly with RNA-Seq data analysis and machine learning approaches – preferably applied to plant/crop datasets.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and R.
  • Familiarity with working on the command line in Unix/Linux environments, including using High Performance Computing (HPC) clusters and/or cloud computing services.
  • Experience with workflow management systems, such as Nextflow or Snakemake.
  • Ability to analyse complex biological data and produce interpretable results through graphs, tables, and visualisations.
  • Excellent communication of technical findings to commercial clients.
  • You are an independent and collaborative problem-solver with high standards, capable of prioritising and shifting focus as needed.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Bioinformatics or a related field, or at least 3 years of relevant experience.

Benefits at TraitSeq:

  • Attractive salary and equity options, ensuring that you are well rewarded and invested in our success.
  • Fully remote working with flexible hours, supporting work-life balance for school pickups and other personal commitments.
