Job Description

Are you an AI Engineer, Data Engineer, or Data Scientist versed at rapid prototyping innovative products based on data and Artificial Intelligence? Do you thrive in dynamic, uncertain, rapid-changing projects?  Are you experienced in developing demonstrators and proofs of concept, and driving new solutions to the market quickly?

If so, consider joining our Technical Innovation team as an AI Engineer!

Academic research continues to grow at exponential rates. Our challenge: Provide innovative products and services that enable the creation and consumption of that knowledge more quickly and effectively. We offer access to specialist content data, in the form of academic texts, graphs, and images. As an AI Engineer in our team, your role will be to incubate new data and AI initiatives, explore the art of the possible, stay on top of the very dynamic technology evolutions in AI models, build proofs of concept, and improve value for scholarly knowledge creators.

Our focus is Natural Language Processing, Large Language Models, Knowledge Graphs, and Multi-Modal Generative AI.

Key Accountabilities

  • Rapid prototyping (Python, NLP, NNs, DBs) of new data/AI initiatives in a cross-functional team.
  • Evaluate and report on the feasibility of new data/AI products or workflow improvements.
  • Collect, organise, cleanse, and prepare data for experiments.
  • Setup demos and MVPs with a full-stack ML/data approach (e.g., AWS, DVC, Streamlit).
  • Develop robust evaluation environments and test datasets to monitor AI system performance.
  • Own the AI development at UAT engineering standards for advanced prototypes.
  • Interact with stakeholders from across the company or customers to collect requirements.
  • Work with uncertain, ambiguous, and evolving requirements, and help refine them iteratively.
  • Document, visualise, and report to stakeholders the results of data-driven investigations.
  • Evaluate, leverage and integrate third-party solutions as part of an overall software solution.


Qualifications

In order to be successful in this role you will:

  • have a proven history of learning and adopting new technology quickly
  • be able to demonstrate hands-on experience in rapid-prototyping and applied R&D in Artificial Intelligence – 3+ years for a junior position and 7+ years for a senior position.
  • have the following technical skills: Python, AI/DS/NLP libraries (e.g., pandas, numpy, spacy, nltk, sklearn, pytorch, transformers, etc.), Github, DVC, Docker, Prompt Engineering, AWS.
  • have a high level of autonomy whilst also being a great team player, explorative skills (lean, need discovery), agile development (Jira, Scrumban), the ability to work with highly ambiguous and evolving requirements
  • be comfortable interacting with cross-functional teams (including globally)
  • have a critical thinking and problem solving mindset
  • be a productive and efficient remote worker
  • be results oriented and a doer.
  • ideally have proven knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
  1. Knowledge Graphs, Graph DBs (neo4j, AWS Neptune), Graph AI (e.g., PyKEEN, neo4j DS, etc.)
  2. AI-based data deduplication, conditional merging, entity disambiguation and linking
  3. AWS MLOps (SageMaker, S3, ECS, ECR, Lambda)
  4. Data engineering and big data (e.g., Airflow, Hadoop, Spark, ElasticSearch, Mongo DB, etc.)
  5. LLM fine-tuning (e.g., LoRA, DoRA), LLM pre-training, data cleansing/selection for such tasks



Additional Information

Please note:You must have the right to work in the UK to be considered for this role.

Location: This role is offered on a truly balanced working/hybrid model with the successful candidate using our London Blackfriars location as their office hub. We ask that you are able to commute into the office up to once a week, with the rest of your time working from home.
