Technical Systems Analyst – Financial Crime Technology
Permanent | Hybrid | £80,000 - £90,000

Overview
Opportunity to join a leading bank's fight against financial crime through advanced technological solutions. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyse business requirements and translate them into technical strategies that strengthen the compliance posture of a major financial institution.

Role & Responsibilities
  • Analyse, design, and implement enhancements for complex financial crime and surveillance platforms — transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and market surveillance systems
  • Hands-on development, configuration, and scripting using Python, PowerShell, .NET, and Power BI to deliver scalable technical solutions
  • Translate complex business needs into clear technical specifications, ensuring solutions are robust, compliant, and future-proof
  • Conduct root cause analysis on system issues and design preventative controls to mitigate risk
  • Act as key technology contact during internal/external audits — providing evidence of controls, documentation, data extracts, reconciliations, and supporting remediation
  • Collaborate with Compliance, Operations, and Risk teams as liaison between business users and technology
  • Provide SME input on financial crime systems architecture and data flows
  • Analyse large datasets for anomalies or control gaps, maintaining data integrity across surveillance/reporting systems
  • Support model validation, including tuning ML models to enhance detection capabilities
  • Participate in change management — system upgrades, patching cycles (SIT/UAT), implementations, documentation, version control

Skills & Experience
  • Demonstrable experience analysing complex systems within regulated banking environments, with a focus on financial crime prevention or surveillance technologies
  • Python and PowerShell for automation; experience with .NET and Power BI for data processing/integration
  • Strong data engineering background — Snowflake, advanced SQL, MongoDB (NoSQL), SSIS
  • Practical knowledge of Apache Kafka; exposure to Kubernetes for cloud deployments
  • Hands-on GitHub usage — branching strategies, release management
  • Agile/Scrum delivery experience with JIRA/Confluence
  • Exposure to AI/ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch) and model lifecycle management — beneficial
  • Experience with transaction monitoring (e.g. Actimize), sanctions screening (e.g. Fircosoft), or market/trade surveillance platforms — beneficial but not essential
  • Excellent communication skills — able to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Proactive, organised, able to manage large workloads under tight deadlines
