SEO Specialist (Organic & AI Search)

Little Houghton, Northampton.

Hybrid working — typically one or two office days per week.

Full-time, permanent.

£35,000–£40,000 per annum, plus quarterly bonus.

About Zinc Digital

Zinc is one of Northamptonshire’s most established digital agencies and one of the area’s only Google Premier Partners. As our client base and marketing team continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced SEO Specialist to strengthen our organic and AI search offering.

About the role

Reporting to the Head of Marketing, you will own Zinc’s organic and AI search proposition, from strategy through to delivery.

You will personally manage our highest-value and most complex accounts, establish repeatable processes and help colleagues deliver effective, ethical SEO work that follows Google best practice.

Your performance will be measured through improvements in search visibility, qualified organic traffic, presence within AI-generated answers and revenue attributable to organic search.

What you'll be doing:

  • Develop and deliver long-term organic and AI search strategies, personally leading Zinc’s highest-value and most complex client accounts.
  • Manage on-page SEO, including keyword research, search intent, content structure, internal linking and content quality.
  • Lead technical SEO across client websites, covering audits, crawlability, indexation, site architecture, schema, Core Web Vitals and migrations.
  • Build effective off-page strategies through digital PR, citations, brand mentions, competitor analysis and high-quality link acquisition.
  • Improve client visibility across featured snippets, People Also Ask, Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity.
  • Analyse performance, track organic and AI visibility, produce clear reports and present strategies and results to clients and senior stakeholders.
  • Support pitches, train junior colleagues and develop scalable, ethical SEO processes that follow current search-engine guidance.

What you'll need:

Agency experience is essential due to the pace, account volume and level of client contact involved.

  • At least four years’ hands-on agency SEO experience, including direct client contact and independent account management.
  • Strong practical experience across on-page, technical and off-page SEO, with the ability to develop and deliver effective strategies.
  • Knowledge of Answer Engine and Generative Engine Optimisation, including how brands gain visibility within AI-generated and zero-click results.
  • Experience using SEMrush, Google Search Console and CMS platforms, ideally WordPress and Shopify, alongside a GA4 qualification.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends, measure performance and turn data into clear actions.
  • Excellent organisation, client-management and communication skills, including the ability to explain technical information without unnecessary jargon.
  • An up-to-date understanding of Google core updates, changing search behaviour and ethical, guidance-compliant SEO practices.

What we offer:

  • £35,000–£40,000 salary plus quarterly bonus structure.
  • Hybrid working.
  • 25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, and your birthday off.
  • Regular social events.
  • The opportunity to shape a growing agency’s organic and AI search proposition.

If you have been watching AI job boards over the past year, one title keeps surfacing again and again: the forward deployed engineer, or FDE. It has gone from a niche term known mainly to Palantir alumni to arguably the hottest role in the entire AI hiring market. Job postings for forward deployed engineers have exploded, salaries have climbed past levels most software engineers will ever see, and the biggest names in AI — OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Salesforce, Databricks and Palantir — are all competing for the same small pool of talent. So what exactly is an AI forward deployed engineer, why has demand surged so dramatically, and how do you position yourself to land one of these roles? This guide breaks it all down for AI engineers, software engineers and data scientists looking at their next move.
