Senior Software Engineer – Newcastle - £65,000 to £90,000 per year DOE – On-site

FryerMiles are delighted to be working with a rapidly growing technical consultancy who are looking to recruit multiple Software Engineers to join their Defence team in Newcastle.

You’ll design and build applications used across complex Defence & National Security programmes, working across the full development lifecycle from Proof of Concept through to production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build and maintain applications across the full stack.
  • Develop backend services, APIs, databases and user interfaces.
  • Deploy applications across cloud and on-premise environments.
  • Build high-quality, secure and maintainable software.
  • Work with technical teams and Defence customers to solve complex problems.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong programming skills in C#/.NET, Java or Python.
  • Experience developing production web applications.
  • SQL databases, web frameworks and RESTful APIs.
  • Front-end development using React and TypeScript.
  • Cloud experience with Azure and/or AWS.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and development best practices.
  • First-class or 2:1 degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or a related discipline from a Russell Group university.

Desirable Experience

  • WebSockets, SignalR or similar real-time technologies.
  • AI-assisted software development tools.
  • Defence or National Security experience.

Essential Requirements

  • UK national and eligible to obtain UK SC-level Security Clearance.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available.

Willingness to travel to Defence customer sites across the UK when required, including 2–3 days per week or shorter periods of full-time travel.
