The Opportunity - Senior Developer - Cloud Platform & AI

We're recruiting for a Senior Software Developer to join a small, highly capable technology team delivering a major legacy-to-cloud transformation. The business is moving its core booking platform to an Azure and modern .NET solution, while also building an AI-powered quotation and knowledge platform that will be central to how the organisation works. This is a hands-on senior engineering role and you'll be joining at a point where the architecture, delivery approach and product direction still matter. You'll design and ship production services, contribute to a structured strangler-fig migration, and use AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor and Claude Code as part of everyday engineering practice. The role would suit an experienced Senior Developer, or a strong Developer ready to step up in a collaborative, senior-led environment.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Design, build and support cloud-based services in .NET 10 across Azure API Management, Azure SQL and the wider Azure platform.
  • Help modernise a business-critical booking platform using an incremental strangler-fig migration approach.
  • Work on anti-corruption layers, two-way data synchronisation, staged cutovers, validation and zero-downtime release patterns.
  • Build and maintain reliable CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions.
  • Develop secure services within the Entra ID identity plane for staff and customer authentication.
  • Contribute to AI-enabled quotation and knowledge tools, including human-in-the-loop quote drafting and retrieval-augmented knowledge features.
  • Collaborate closely with mobile, product and engineering colleagues where your APIs are consumed across different surfaces.
  • Take part in architecture discussions, code reviews and mentoring of graduate developers.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong hands-on software development experience, ideally 6-10 years, with the majority in .NET/C#.
  • Recent experience with modern .NET, ideally .NET 8 or later.
  • Blazor experience.
  • Strong Azure experience, including App Service or Container Apps, Azure SQL, API Management and Azure DevOps pipelines.
  • Experience modernising legacy systems, ideally using strangler-fig or similar incremental migration approaches.
  • Good understanding of REST API design, microservices and event-driven architecture patterns.
  • Practical day-to-day use of AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code or similar.
  • Identity and authentication experience, including Entra ID/Azure AD, OAuth2 or OIDC.
  • Comfortable working with SQL Server or Azure SQL data modelling, performance and migration activities.
  • Clear communication skills and the confidence to work in a small permanent team where engineers take ownership from design through to delivery.

Useful Additional Experience

  • Exposure to React or React Native, particularly where APIs support web or mobile products.
  • Experience with retrieval-augmented generation, vector search or integrating LLM-based features into production products.
  • Experience working in a scale-up, transformation programme or small permanent technology team.

Salary: c£65,000-£75,000, with some flexibility.

What Is an AI Forward Deployed Engineer? The Fastest-Growing Job in AI for 2026

If you have been watching AI job boards over the past year, one title keeps surfacing again and again: the forward deployed engineer, or FDE. It has gone from a niche term known mainly to Palantir alumni to arguably the hottest role in the entire AI hiring market. Job postings for forward deployed engineers have exploded, salaries have climbed past levels most software engineers will ever see, and the biggest names in AI — OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Salesforce, Databricks and Palantir — are all competing for the same small pool of talent. So what exactly is an AI forward deployed engineer, why has demand surged so dramatically, and how do you position yourself to land one of these roles? This guide breaks it all down for AI engineers, software engineers and data scientists looking at their next move.
