Are you a Power Electronics Researcher looking to apply your research into AI and machine learning to the design and optimisation of next-generation power electronic systems?

This is an exciting opportunity to join an innovative engineering environment working at the intersection of power electronics, artificial intelligence and advanced system design. You will contribute to research and development projects focused on improving the design, simulation and optimisation of power electronic converter technologies, with applications across sectors including electric vehicles, rail and renewable energy.

The role would suit a final-year PhD student, recent PhD graduate, Postdoctoral Researcher or Research Fellow with relevant experience in power electronics with experience using AI in their work. You will work closely with experienced engineers and researchers, helping to translate academic research into practical engineering applications.

The ideal candidate will have a strong research background in power electronics, alongside experience using AI, machine learning or data-driven techniques within their research. This could include developing their own models, algorithms or tools to support power electronics design, rather than simply using AI tools such as ChatGPT as part of their research.

The Role:

Research and develop AI/ML approaches for power electronics applications

Design, model and simulate power electronic converter systems

Investigate the use of AI and machine learning to optimise converter design and performance

Develop models, algorithms or tools to support the power electronics design process

Research emerging technologies and contribute to technical reports and research outputs

Support the transition of research concepts into practical engineering applications

The Person:

Degree or PhD in Power Electronics, Electrical Engineering or a related field

Strong research background in power electronics and converter technologies

Experience with AC/DC, DC/DC or DC/AC converter systems

Research experience involving AI, machine learning, data-driven modelling or optimisation

Experience with simulation tools such as MATLAB, PLECS or Ansys

Final-year PhD candidates, recent PhD graduates, Postdoctoral Researchers and Research Fellows are encouraged to apply

What Is an AI Forward Deployed Engineer? The Fastest-Growing Job in AI for 2026

If you have been watching AI job boards over the past year, one title keeps surfacing again and again: the forward deployed engineer, or FDE. It has gone from a niche term known mainly to Palantir alumni to arguably the hottest role in the entire AI hiring market. Job postings for forward deployed engineers have exploded, salaries have climbed past levels most software engineers will ever see, and the biggest names in AI — OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Salesforce, Databricks and Palantir — are all competing for the same small pool of talent. So what exactly is an AI forward deployed engineer, why has demand surged so dramatically, and how do you position yourself to land one of these roles? This guide breaks it all down for AI engineers, software engineers and data scientists looking at their next move.
