Not every software leadership role is about managing people and not every technical role gives you the chance to shape solutions, influence clients and still keep your hands on the technology.

This is different!

Here is an opportunity for someone who loves to ask "the why" about technology and the wider world. If you're comfortable moving between strategic conversations and practical delivery then this could be the right move for you.

They’re an award winning tech company with an impressive employee retention and a reputation for the best L&D opportunities across the North East so it's a fantastic environment for you to take your career into its next phase.

About the role...

  • This is a role for someone who enjoys solving business problems through technology. Your day to day will mostly be working directly with clients, shaping solution strategy, influencing technical direction and identify new opportunities.
  • Around 30% your time will be sleeves up, engineering these solutions with the team.
  • You'll have an active interest in emerging practices, and the ability to connect technical possibilities with client needs.
  • You'll also mentor colleagues and contribute to the development of the department’s capabilities.

Who will enjoy this role? You'll be someone who...

  • Has a strong software engineering background and still enjoys getting involved technically.
  • Loves discussing technology, architecture, AI and emerging trends.
  • Naturally builds relationships and enjoys meeting clients and stakeholders.
  • Asks "why?" and enjoy exploring different ways to solve problems.
  • Is commercially aware without seeing yourself as a salesperson.
  • Enjoys connecting people, ideas and opportunities.
  • Keeps learning through side projects, communities, events or personal interests outside of work.

What you'll be doing...

  • Leading discovery conversations with clients and stakeholders.
  • Designing high-level software and cloud solutions.
  • Conducting technical reviews and providing expert guidance.
  • Supporting bids, proposals and new business opportunities.
  • Running workshops and helping shape project direction.
  • Mentoring colleagues and contributing to technical standards.
  • Remaining technically credible and involved in delivery where it adds value.

Tech environment...

They work across a variety of modern technologies and are particularly interested in people with experience in areas such as:

  • C# / .NET
  • Azure
  • Cloud-native solutions
  • React
  • Docker
  • AI-assisted development and AI strategy

You don't need expertise in every area. Technical curiosity, adaptability and the ability to engage confidently in technical conversations are far more important.

Working benefits...

  • Salary up to £85,000
  • Very generous holiday package
  • Flexible working hours
  • Health plan
  • Free parking
  • Above industry standard sick pay cover

Interview process / Application process...

  • You must be eligible to work in the UK, sponsorship is not offered.
  • 2 stage interview, 1 initial 30 min teams call then a 1.5 hour final stage face to face.

If you would like to know anything more about this role or even just want to hear what other .NET Software Developer positions I have that may also be a good match for you then give me a shout on / catch me on LinkedIn " Jessica Blackburn "

If you have been watching AI job boards over the past year, one title keeps surfacing again and again: the forward deployed engineer, or FDE. It has gone from a niche term known mainly to Palantir alumni to arguably the hottest role in the entire AI hiring market. Job postings for forward deployed engineers have exploded, salaries have climbed past levels most software engineers will ever see, and the biggest names in AI — OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Salesforce, Databricks and Palantir — are all competing for the same small pool of talent. So what exactly is an AI forward deployed engineer, why has demand surged so dramatically, and how do you position yourself to land one of these roles? This guide breaks it all down for AI engineers, software engineers and data scientists looking at their next move.
