Junior Software Developer

Central London, Old Street | Hybrid, 1 to 2 days per week in the office initially | Up to £55,000

I am working with an innovative technology company that uses AI, machine learning and modern software engineering to build products that solve real-world transport challenges.

They are looking for a Junior Software Developer with around 1 to 2 years of commercial experience to join their growing engineering team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys backend development and wants to gain broader commercial experience across Python, Node.js, databases, cloud technologies and production machine learning systems.

Rather than being restricted to one area, you will contribute across the full software development lifecycle, giving you the opportunity to broaden your technical skills and accelerate your career.

What You Will Be Doing

* Developing backend services and APIs using Python and Node.js

* Working with PostgreSQL, SQL and MongoDB

* Contributing to React-based frontend applications

* Supporting the training and deployment of commercial machine learning models

* Working with object detection and computer vision functionality

* Deploying and maintaining applications using AWS

* Collaborating with an experienced engineering team to build clean, scalable and maintainable software

What They Are Looking For

You will ideally have:

* Around 1 to 2 years of commercial software development experience

* Commercial experience with Python and/or Node.js

* Experience working with SQL or NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, SQL or MongoDB

* Practical commercial exposure to machine learning projects

* Experience contributing to the deployment of an ML solution as part of a team

Experience with React, AWS, Django, Flask, FastAPI, REST APIs, Git or CI/CD would also be beneficial.

You do not need to be a machine learning specialist. However, you should have practical industry experience working with and deploying machine learning solutions as part of a commercial team, rather than exposure limited to coursework or personal projects.

Why Join?

* Broad engineering role covering backend development, databases, cloud and machine learning

* Hands-on exposure to commercial AI and computer vision technology

* Opportunity to work on real products that solve practical transport challenges

* Modern technology stack

* Visible contribution within a growing engineering team

* Genuine scope to learn, take ownership and progress

* Flexible hybrid working

* Salary of up to £55,000

The company is based in Central London, close to Old Street. New starters are encouraged to spend 1 to 2 days per week in the office initially to get to know the team and wider business.

The interview process includes an initial screening interview, a take-home technical task, a technical interview and a final management discussion

What Is an AI Forward Deployed Engineer? The Fastest-Growing Job in AI for 2026

If you have been watching AI job boards over the past year, one title keeps surfacing again and again: the forward deployed engineer, or FDE. It has gone from a niche term known mainly to Palantir alumni to arguably the hottest role in the entire AI hiring market. Job postings for forward deployed engineers have exploded, salaries have climbed past levels most software engineers will ever see, and the biggest names in AI — OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Salesforce, Databricks and Palantir — are all competing for the same small pool of talent. So what exactly is an AI forward deployed engineer, why has demand surged so dramatically, and how do you position yourself to land one of these roles? This guide breaks it all down for AI engineers, software engineers and data scientists looking at their next move.
