GA4 Data Engineer | Partner Sucsess | Hybrid Working | Hatfield

Introduction:

We are Ocado Group, and we're bringing world-class automation to online grocery. Our Ocado Smart Platform (OSP) combines cutting-edge robotics, AI, and IoT within our advanced CFCs (Customer Fulfilment Centres). We've mastered the single pick, transforming online delivery for our global partners. Join us and be part of a team pushing the boundaries of retail technology.

About the Role

We're looking for a skilled Data Engineer to own the end-to-end setup, maintenance, and quality assurance of Google Analytics 4 (GA4) across our global partner ecosystem. Sitting at the intersection of analytics, data engineering, and partner enablement, you will support our international retail partners in operating the Ocado Smart Platform effectively. You will lead GA4 e-commerce event implementations on both web and app platforms, conduct robust tracking audits, and act as a trusted consultant to help partners measure their marketing and advertising performance accurately.

In this collaborative and partner-facing role, you will work closely with data engineering, product, and the wider Solutions Analytics teams. You will play a key part in our Analytics Hub initiative, enabling partners to share GA4 data for deep analysis and reporting. By defining, embedding, and routing critical metrics to internal datasets and downstream Looker reports, you will empower our partners with the high-quality, actionable data they need to make strategic, data-driven commercial decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end implementation of GA4 e-commerce events across OSP web and app via Google Tag Manager (GTM) and Firebase SDK, including legacy migrations.
  • Configure and manage GTM containers, GA4 properties, accounts, and raw BigQuery data exports.
  • Conduct comprehensive GA4 implementation audits to identify and resolve tracking issues, mismatched events, and discrepancies between web and app.
  • Maintain a centralised GA4 tracking sheet detailing implementation status, known issues, change logs, and utilisation insights.
  • Serve as the primary GA4 consultant for global partners, supporting them with implementation, business-as-usual query resolution, and strategic decisions.
  • Deliver GA4 and GTM training workshops and facilitate post-implementation check-ins with partners.
  • Configure BigQuery integrations and support downstream Looker reporting on GA4 data.
  • Collaborate with data engineering to ingest GA4 data into internal datasets and maintain robust data pipelines.
  • Support the Analytics Hub initiative alongside partners' GA4 upgrade and maturity planning.
  • Define and embed key performance metrics for marketing and advertising effectiveness into partner reporting.

What We’re Looking For

  • Hands-on experience with GA4 (ideally implementation)
  • Proficiency in e-commerce event tracking and debugging using tools like DebugView and Tag Assistant.
  • Experience using BigQuery for raw GA4 data analysis.
  • Familiarity with Looker or other business intelligence (BI) tools.
  • Experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud or CRM integrations.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate technical tracking concepts for non-technical partners.
  • Proven capability to manage multiple partner workstreams simultaneously.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience with Analytics Hub or data-sharing pipelines.
  • Knowledge of attribution methodologies (data-driven vs. rules-based, multi-touch, incrementality) and building custom attribution models in SQL/BigQuery.
  • Experience running training sessions, enablement workshops, or working with retail media/onsite advertising measurement.
  • Curiosity about AI, including experience using tools like Claude and managing Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers.

Benefits We believe in supporting our people with meaningful, flexible benefits that prioritise well-being and work-life balance. Here’s a snapshot of what you can expect:

  • Time to recharge: 25 days annual leave (rising to 27 after 5 years), plus the option to buy more – and 30 days a year to work from anywhere in the world.
  • Health & wellbeing: Private Medical Insurance from your first month, wellbeing support through specialist apps and EAP, plus Income Protection and Life Assurance.
  • Family-first policies: 22 weeks paid maternity/primary carer leave and 6 weeks paid paternity leave.
  • Financial support: Pension with employer matching up to 7%, share schemes (Sharesave & BAYE), and interest-free loans for train tickets.
  • Commuter perks: Cycle to Work Scheme and free shuttle buses to/from Hatfield and Welwyn Garden City stations.
  • Exclusive discounts: 15% off at Ocado.com with free delivery (starting in your first month).

Be bold, be unique, be brilliant, be you. We are looking for individuality and we value diversity. We are an equal opportunities employer and we are committed to treating all applicants and employees fairly and equally. We are committed to making reasonable adjustments to provide a positive, barrier-free recruitment process and supportive work environment. If you have any support or access requirements, we encourage you to advise us at the time of application.

What Is an AI Forward Deployed Engineer? The Fastest-Growing Job in AI for 2026

If you have been watching AI job boards over the past year, one title keeps surfacing again and again: the forward deployed engineer, or FDE. It has gone from a niche term known mainly to Palantir alumni to arguably the hottest role in the entire AI hiring market. So what exactly is an AI forward deployed engineer, why has demand surged so dramatically, and how do you position yourself to land one of these roles? This guide breaks it all down for AI engineers, software engineers and data scientists looking at their next move.
