Job Overview
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineering Manager to lead the delivery of high-impact Engineering Excellence platforms, with a strong emphasis on Generative AI, modern engineering practices, and scalable software delivery. This role blends hands-on technical leadership with building and developing a high-performing engineering team across Belfast and Pune.

You will be responsible for setting the engineering direction across Citi's Technology organization, contribute directly to solution design and delivery, and ensure that EE's products meet the needs of engineers and senior technology stakeholders across the firm.

About Engineering Excellence (EE)
Engineering Excellence (EE) enables Citi engineers to do their best work by providing modern tools, platforms, and practices that enhance productivity, technical capability, and cross-team collaboration. EE partners closely with the CTO organization to deliver people-centric, high-impact engineering solutions that raise the overall technical bar across Citi.
Citi's ability to deliver our full potential is dependent upon our people. EE exists to attract, develop, inspire, and retain technology talent who thrive in an inclusive and engaging culture. Our efforts focus on three core areas:

Boost engineer productivity
Engage, equip, and empower engineers with tools and resources to work more efficiently, innovate faster, and deliver impactful outcomes.

Empower engineers to advance their technical careers
Through the Engineering Excellence Talent Development Framework (E1-E4) and Tech Fellows, EE provides engineers with structured pathways to develop technical and non-technical skills, gain recognition for their contributions, and participate in a culture of continuous learning and collaboration.

Foster strategic collaboration
EE creates opportunities for engineers across Citi's global technology organizations to connect, share knowledge, and contribute to strategic solutions that shape Citi's future and collective success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver EE's core engineering platforms, including:
    • AI Metrics Dashboard tracking adoption and value of AI tools
    • CTO Tech Radar and its integration into Citi Assist
    • Citi Tech Conference website and future EE web properties
    • Additional EE applications aligned to strategic engineering uplift
  • Build and lead a high-performing engineering team (Belfast & Pune), hiring ~5 engineers across DevOps, UX, and full-stack development.
  • Provide technical leadership and hands-on architectural guidance across all EE initiatives.
  • Translate emerging AI and engineering practices into scalable, production-ready enterprise solutions, ensuring security, stability, and effective evaluation/guard-railing.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders (EMT-1/2) to understand strategic needs and deliver solutions that drive meaningful engineering outcomes.
  • Champion engineering excellence, ensuring high standards in quality, testing, reliability, and developer experience.
Required Experience & Skills
  • Engineering Lead or Software Engineering Manager experience delivering large-scale systems.
  • Proficiency in Python, Java, TypeScript/JavaScript, or Go.
  • Experience deploying LLM / GenAI systems to production with a focus on evaluation, safety, monitoring.
  • Strong background in distributed systems, microservices, SQL/NoSQL, and DevSecOps.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and tooling (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Helm).
  • Familiarity with frameworks such as Spring (AI/Boot/Core), Flask, LangChain, LangGraph, ADK, MLFlow, and orchestrators like N8N.
  • Experience with React and modern UI frameworks (Gradio, Streamlit).
  • Understanding of REST/WebSocket APIs, CI/CD pipelines, and messaging systems (Kafka, JMS/MQ).
Leadership & Delivery
  • Proven ability to build, coach, and scale engineering teams.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to lead in evolving, fast-moving environments.
  • Collaborative mindset with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Ideal Candidate Profile
You are a technically versatile engineering leader who stays hands-on while building exceptional teams. You can navigate ambiguity, communicate clearly, and translate complex technical concepts into actionable direction. You bring an inclusive leadership style, a passion for engineering quality, and the ability to drive meaningful improvements to how engineers work across Citi.

Where to Advertise AI Jobs in the UK (2026 Guide)

Where to advertise AI jobs UK in 2026: the specialist boards and communities that reach AI engineers, ML scientists and applied research talent in the UK. The candidate pool is small, highly informed and in demand across multiple sectors simultaneously. General job boards reach a broad audience but lack the specificity that AI professionals expect — and the filtering mechanisms they rely on. Specialist platforms, direct outreach and academic channels each serve a different part of the market. This guide, published by ArtificialIntelligenceJobs.co.uk, covers where to advertise AI roles in the UK in 2026, how the main platforms compare, what employers should expect to pay, and what the data says about time-to-hire across different role types.
