Business Application Engineer - London (Hybrid) - Python, Power Platform, M365, AI & Automation - Up to £50,000

We're partnering with a fast-growing, technology-led organisation that is heavily investing in AI, automation and internally developed applications. As adoption continues to accelerate, they're looking for an engineer who enjoys building solutions, solving business problems and taking ownership of a growing portfolio of internal tools.

This role would suit someone who has built applications, automations or internal tooling and enjoys working directly with stakeholders to understand problems and deliver practical solutions. You'll have the freedom to shape how applications are developed, governed and supported across the organisation while continuing to remain hands-on technically.

You Will Be Responsible For

  • Designing, building and enhancing internal applications, automations, and AI-powered solutions.
  • Partnering with business users to turn ideas and requirements into scalable business applications.
  • Reviewing and improving business-built applications to ensure they are secure, scalable, and supportable.
  • Building and maintaining internal tools that improve business efficiency and productivity.
  • Debugging issues across applications, integrations, automations, and workflows.
  • Working closely with stakeholders to understand business challenges and identify practical technical solutions.
  • Managing application ownership, governance, and documentation to ensure long-term supportability.
  • Evaluating emerging technologies, platforms, and AI tools that could deliver value to the business.
  • Creating reusable templates, components, and best practices that enable teams to build solutions more effectively.
  • Acting as the bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Benefits

  • Bonus scheme
  • Hybrid working with flexibility around office days.
  • Private healthcare and wellbeing benefits.
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity provision.
  • Learning and development opportunities.
  • Exposure to modern AI, automation, and cloud technologies.
  • Clear progression opportunities as the business continues to scale.
  • Supportive and collaborative culture focused on continuous improvement.

Key Experience

  • Experience building, developing, or owning business applications rather than purely supporting them.
  • Understanding of Microsoft 365 technologies.
  • Experience with Power Platform, including Power Apps and Power Automate.
  • Python and/or JavaScript development skills.
  • Experience working with APIs, integrations, and automation tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging capability.
  • Comfortable working directly with business stakeholders and non-technical users.
  • Experience supporting low-code, no-code, or citizen developer environments would be highly beneficial.
  • A pragmatic approach with a focus on solving business problems and delivering outcomes.
  • Ability to balance governance and engineering best practice while enabling innovation.

If you have been watching AI job boards over the past year, one title keeps surfacing again and again: the forward deployed engineer, or FDE. It has gone from a niche term known mainly to Palantir alumni to arguably the hottest role in the entire AI hiring market. Job postings for forward deployed engineers have exploded, salaries have climbed past levels most software engineers will ever see, and the biggest names in AI — OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Salesforce, Databricks and Palantir — are all competing for the same small pool of talent. So what exactly is an AI forward deployed engineer, why has demand surged so dramatically, and how do you position yourself to land one of these roles? This guide breaks it all down for AI engineers, software engineers and data scientists looking at their next move.
