Data Scientist

Client: State of Virginia Virginia Department ofHealth

Duration: 12Months

Location: RichmondVA

  • local candidates strongly preferred.
  • Assist with complex data cleaning integration andanalysis of public health data. The Data Scientist will collaboratewith stakeholders subject matter experts and data stewards toensure data projects are accurate and fulfill business needs forvarious data projects including COVID19.

Some responsibilities are but notlimited to

  • Leverages appropriateanalytic and visualization tools (SQL R Python Tableau others) todevelop complex data cleaning integration and analysis projects.Applies appropriate coding and statistical methodology to fulfillstakeholder requirements.
  • Coordinates withbusiness stakeholders and subject matter experts to definerequirements organize and lead meetings present findings solicitfeedback and establish enhancement cycles.
  • Communicates data project results for a variety ofaudiences. Builds visualizations collaborates on report writingpresents to internal and external stakeholders and pursuespublication as applicable. Audiences may include specific VDHprograms VDH leadership other government agencies the generalpublic healthcare providers community action groups and/or academicjournals.
  • Builds relationships andcollaborates with diverse internal and external stakeholdersincluding subjectmatter experts data stewards and others asapplicable.
  • Contributes to team documentation.Ensures that scripts are commented out and routine processes aredescribed stepwise. Includes data cleaning steps sources filtersassumptions and purposes in documentation.
  • Proactively identifies process database and analysisimprovements. Identifies communicates and implements innovativestrategies without overstepping programmatic ownership.
  • Conducts other duties as requested/assigned

Required Qualifications(Skills Experience Education Certifications)

  • Bachelors Degree with coursework in biostatistics orequivalent combination of experience and education
  • Strong data analysis skills in SQL Tableau R REDCap andMicrosoft Excel
  • Willingness to work occasionalweekends and holidays
  • Experience workingcollaboratively with diverse groups and projects with definedtimelines and deadlines simultaneously
  • Preferred Qualifications (Skills Experience EducationCertifications)
  • Masters Degree with courseworkin biostatistics or equivalent
  • Proficiencywith SQL R Tableau Desktop Tableau Prep and REDCap
  • Familiarity with health/public health data
