We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated Registered General Nurses/Level 1 to join our busy Gynaecology Outpatients Department on secondment to cover maternity leave.

The Gynaecology Unit (OGN) is based on ‘G’ floor of the Royal Hallamshire Hospital and on level one of the Jessop Wing. The unit comprises of Outpatients/Colposcopy, Day Care, Termination Services, Emergency Admissions, Early Pregnancy Care, general Gynaecology, Uro-Gynaecology, Gynae Oncology, Infertility and the Assisted Conception Unit.

The successful applicant(s) will be based within the Gynaecology Out-Patient Department in the Jessop Hospital Wing. A commitment to individualised patient care within the PROUD values of the Trust, evidence-based practice is essential.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate should be able to:

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care. To maintain effective communication skills with patients, relatives and healthcare team. To act sensitively, confidentially and with empathy in demonstrating understanding of wide ranging physical and emotional needs. To maintain accurate, contemporaneous and timely care records, both written and electronic. To act within a framework of Healthcare Governance. Protect, improve and preserve patients health by adherence to infection control policies and practice. Exercise professional judgement by applying skills and knowledge to the safe custody and administration of drugs via EPMA. Support students and healthcare assistants; demonstrating exemplary practice. Ensure compliance with NMC Post registration education and re-registration standards. Work with Trust guidelines, policies and procedures, NMC code of conduct seeking advice as necessary from the health care team.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 6 to 9 months due to maternity leave of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and statutory maternity provisions.

Essential criteria

Completed and achieved ADNS/BA (Hons) Nursing Studies OR Registered Nurse

Desirable criteria

Teaching & Assessing qualification or Equivalent or working towards.

Experience

Essential criteria

Extensive post registration experience Evidence of inter-professional team working.

Desirable criteria

Experience of working in an Out-Patients area

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria

Evidence of continuing education and professional development. Effective communication skills.

Desirable criteria

Clinical skills – Venepuncture

Essential criteria

Professional approach to working practices. Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of patient care and the needs of the service.
