The role

We are looking for a strong technical lead who has experience in producing and shipping reliable, performant automotive-grade software for distributed, high-end computing devices. As a member of the onboard Software Platform team, you will work within an engineering team delivering the software for edge devices to reliably provide data, experimentation, validation, and autonomy on a large-scale fleet of vehicles. Through this role, you will be responsible for designing software architecture to integrate our ML-based AD solution into an automotive L2-L3 system application. This is a high-visibility role, providing broad technical leadership for a fast-growing team and company.

Impact expected

As a Technical Lead for Embedded Automotive Software, you will play a critical role in developing and deploying software that supports the running of an advanced end-to-end AI model for autonomous driving. You will lead key technical programs and ensure the robustness, compliance, and performance of our automotive embedded systems, which are fundamental to our autonomous vehicle solutions. Your role will involve addressing complex technical challenges, working with multiple teams to deliver substantial program milestones in the automotive sector.

Challenges you will own

  • Technical Program Leadership:Independently lead extensive areas of embedded software development and critical automotive programs. Ensure timely delivery by effectively managing requirements, technical risks, development strategies, milestones, and dependencies, with a strong focus on safety and compliance.
  • Software Architecture Design:Design and develop software architecture to integrate our machine learning-based autonomous driving solution into an automotive L2-L3 system application. Ensure seamless integration with OEM software environments to enable full sensor integration and data capture at the scale and quality necessary for a fully autonomous vehicle.
  • Collaborative Development:Work closely with cross-functional teams comprising machine learning engineers, software developers, system engineers, and product managers to define and refine the software architecture.
  • Compliance and Safety:Collaborate with safety and functional safety teams to ensure the software architecture aligns with ISO 26262 functional safety standards and other relevant regulations. Support the team in implementing ASPICE compliant processes.
  • Code Base Management:Maintain a robust, compliant, and scalable code base for embedded systems, fostering rapid development and future scalability.
  • Real-Time System Management:Deliver and maintain real-time Linux-based and QNX-based applications for a fleet of embedded devices on automobiles, including data collection, storage, and machine learning inference on the edge.
  • Fault Tolerance and Diagnostics:Develop and implement fault-tolerant software solutions with comprehensive system diagnostics to quickly identify and resolve issues in deployed automotive systems.
  • Mentorship and Cultural Development:Provide mentorship to engineers, guiding them in their professional growth. Actively lead forums such as design reviews and architecture planning to promote a culture of engineering excellence and compliance.

  • AUTOSAR Expertise:Expertise in creating embedded software using the AUTOSAR architecture.
  • Leadership Skills:Strong leadership qualities, capable of leading cross-functional teams and projects. Excellent ability to collaborate across divisions and effectively engage stakeholders.
  • Communication Skills:Effective communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical and business concepts to a broad audience.
  • Educational Background:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Desirable

  • Language Expertise:Expertise and proficiency in using both C++ and Rust for embedded software development.
  • Advanced Degree:A Master’s degree or greater in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
