Software Engineer – Data focused – Hybrid in York – up to £60,000


About the Role


We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior C# Developer with a strong focus on data-centric development to join our dynamic technology team. You will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining robust C# applications with a deep integration into large-scale data pipelines, databases, and analytics platforms.


Key Responsibilities


  • Design, develop, and maintain C# applications and backend services with a strong emphasis on data integration and transformation.
  • Optimise large-scale data processing workflows and ensure high-performance querying and storage.
  • Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and services that interact with large datasets.
  • Implement best practices for data integrity, data quality, and data security.
  • Contribute to the design of data models, schemas, and ETL pipelines.
  • Collaborate in Agile/Scrum teams and participate in code reviews
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve data services and infrastructure.
  • Mentoring of junior developers and promoting engineering best practices across the team.


Required Skills and Experience


  • 5+ years of commercial experience in C#/.NET development
  • Strong experience with SQL Server and advanced T-SQL development.
  • Deep understanding of data modeling and relational databases
  • Experience with large datasets, performance tuning, indexing, and query optimisation.
  • Hands-on experience with ETL tools or custom ETL pipelines (SSIS, Azure Data Factory, or equivalent).
  • Experience building and consuming APIs in data-rich environments.
  • Solid understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns, and unit testing.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (preferably Azure)
  • Experience with source control tools (e.g., Git) and CI/CD pipelines.



Desirable Skills


  • Familiarity with big data or NoSQL technologies (e.g., MongoDB, Cosmos DB, Hadoop).
  • Exposure to data analytics tools (Power BI, Tableau) or machine learning workflows.
  • Knowledge of data governance, GDPR, and data compliance practices.
