An exciting secondment opportunity has become available on the Neonatal Unit at The Jessop Wing. We are looking for an enthusiastic, driven and experienced Senior Neonatal Nurse with a passion for education to join us in the Neonatal Education Team as the band 7 lead educator.

The postholder will be a highly experienced neonatal nurse who is dynamic and compassionate to lead a team that will drive the educational needs of the neonatal nursing workforce within the Jessop Wing Neonatal Unit. The postholder will work closely with the Neonatal Matron, Consultant Nurse and will be instrumental in identifying priority areas of education and improvement, including implementing the Jessop Wing neonatal career pathway.

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust provides a level 3 Neonatal service for the Yorkshire and Humber operating delivery network. We have 45 cots providing up to 15 ITU, 6 HDU, 18 Special Care and 6 Transitional care cots.

The successful candidate must have the academic requirements or be working towards those that reflect a band 7 clinical educator, significant experience of both leadership and clinical practice, be flexible to meet the needs of the service, innovative, highly motivated and have a desire to build a skilled and knowledgeable neonatal unit workforce.

Main duties of the job

Lead in the delivery of education across the neonatal service Lead a team of clinical educators to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate programmes of education for the neonatal nursing workforce Develop, implement and evaluate local neonatal nursing career pathways in collaboration with the wider team Lead on the delivery of quality improvement initiatives to support local and national quality and safety indicators Coach individuals and teams to embed educational opportunities in both the clinical and classroom environment Coordinate and deliver educational sessions, study days and simulation-based trainings to enhance the knowledge and skills of the neonatal workforce

The Directorate of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology is based at the Jessop Wing which is linked to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. The maternity unit has over 6800 births per year and is a Regional Tertiary Maternity Service with a Level 3 Neonatal Unit of 44 cots. A tertiary Gynae-Oncology service and a changing Gynaecology Service, which includes an Assisted Conception Unit, complete the services within the Directorate.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for the maximum period of 12 months. Where there is potential, the secondment/fixed term contract may finish early, or in the first instance, the secondment/fixed term contract may be extended due to the internal/external secondment of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and secondments in relation to the substantive post holder.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

Registered Nurse (Adult or Child) with current NMC registration •To have completed the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998. Recognised qualification in neonatal speciality (QIS) Masters level 7 (or working towards/ higher level modules) in a related health care/education subject

Desirable criteria

Leadership /management qualification PCGE or equivalent education module Professional nurse advocate (PNA) qualification

Experience

Essential criteria

Extensive experience as a senior neonatal nurse Clinical teaching experience in all aspects of neonatology Experience of supervising, mentoring and appraising staff Evidence of management/leadership experience Evidence of recent experience of teaching and supporting learners Ability to teach all clinical and administrative aspects of neonatal care formal and ad hoc opportunities

Desirable criteria

Participation in clinical research/audit Experience of teaching/presenting in a formal setting Experience of developing educational pathways

Newborn Life Support provider (NLS)
