An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse position within Respiratory Medicine at the Northern General Hospital. We are looking for a highly motivated, experienced nurse to assist the Senior Sister in managing Robert Hadfield 2, a Respiratory inpatient ward.

Respiratory Medicine is a broad ranging speciality that encompasses the diagnosis and treatment of patients with acute respiratory disease, including specialist care for diseases, such as Asthma, COPD, and Interstitial lung disease (ILD).

The successful candidate will be required to work to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals PROUD standards and behaviours and will need to demonstrate excellent leadership and communication skills. You will be committed to providing high standards of safe, effective, and compassionate care to this patient group in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team that meets the expectations of individual patients and their families.

Main duties of the job

To undertake and support in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of specific programmes of patient care, taking a lead role in reducing the length of stay of respiratory patients.

Exercise judgement in assessing wide ranging patient problems and promote options for optimum patient care, including health promotion and education.

To develop and implement evidence-based programmes of care which are patient focused, health promoting, and system managed.

To maintain effective communication with all patients, carers, and members of the Healthcare team.

To act sensitively, confidentially and with empathy in demonstrating understanding of wide-ranging physical and emotional needs.

GRaDE Care Group is comprised of 3 clinical directorates:

Diabetes and Endocrinology
Gastroenterology and Hepatology
Respiratory Medicine

All three directorates operate on the Northern and Central campus’ although the acute admitting base for all of the specialties is at the Northern General Hospital. The Care Group has 11 acute base wards at the Northern General Hospital and one acute and one elective base ward at the Central Campus. Outpatient services operate on both campus’ and are supported by the Patient Booking Hub at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

Essential criteria

Registered Nurse To have completed the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998. Possess or working towards a degree

Experience

Essential criteria

Relevant experience at AFC band 5 (or equivalent) Experience at managing long term conditions

Desirable criteria

Relevant experience of caring for patients with Respiratory conditions

Further Training

Essential criteria

IV drug administration competency. Evidence of relevant professional development. Basic IT/Computer skills
