An opportunity has arisen for a forward thinking, dynamic, highly motivated senior nurse, to apply for the position of full time Senior Sister/Charge Nurse band 7 on the Frailty Unit. 

Frailty Unit is a 28 bedded elderly care admissions unit with an assessment area within IGSM, part of the CCA care group.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of strong leadership, able to demonstrate excellent leadership skills and have experience in managing staff within a clinical environment at a minimum band 6 level. Applicants should be self-motivated, dynamic, and forward thinking and able to lead and develop the nursing team. Change management experience is also desirable. 

The successful candidate will be a highly skilled communicator utilising effective verbal, written and IT skills to ensure patients receive timely, efficient evidence-based care and a positive patient experience.

A commitment to working within the clinical governance framework and demonstrating PROUD values is essential to this role.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide leadership and support to staff providing care to patients within a designated ward or department within the Combined Community and Acute Care Group. To have 24 hours continuing responsibility for the ward whether he/she is on duty or not.  To ensure that the highest possible quality of care is delivered within the ward, and that it meets the expectations of individual patients. To support the ward team to deliver high standards of care. To monitor, audit and review care standards and ensure the ward is functioning at a high standard.

Essential criteria

Registered Nurse (Valid with NMC) Degree in Nursing Studies. To have completed the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998 or equivalent experience

Evidence of post registration development relevant to the role

Experience

Essential criteria

Extensive post registration experience Experience at band 6 or above in Geriatric and Stroke Medicine Evidence of successful change management Ability to work autonomously Commitment to work within the Clinical Governance Framework

Desirable criteria

Knowledge of relevant Policies and Procedure at STHFT Organisational Mandatory Training Policy and Strategy Current experience working in Geriatric and stroke medicine

Special Skills/ Aptitudes

Essential criteria

Excellent communication skills High level of clinical skills competence Excellent leadership skills Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work to tight and conflicting deadlines

Desirable criteria

Higher level Safeguarding training. Dementia care skills.
