As aSenior Structural Engineer, you will have the opportunity to design and assist on projects designated by your Group Leader. Carry out detailed design and calculations. Assist and prepare designs, specifications, reports and drawings to the design programme. Oversee and direct both CAD/Revit Technicians and Junior/Graduate Engineers, as required. Attend meetings and attend site to review/monitor works and to undertake surveys, as required to progress the projects.

About You

We are looking for someone who is a personable self-starter with the ability to project a positive ‘can do’ professional attitude at all times maintaining good working relationships. Someone who enjoys working collaboratively across disciplines being able to establish excellent working rapport within the team, business and with clients, with the ability to work under pressure, handle a varied workload and keep to tight deadlines whilst maintaining the highest level of technical excellence.

In the role ofSenior Structural Engineer, well count on you to:

  • Design and assist supervising projects, establish client brief, technical requirements, scope of works, cost plans and agree deliverables, i.e., reports, calculations, specifications, schedules and drawings scope for all projects with your Group Leader or Line Manager.
  • Agree level of service and project design duties with your Group Leader or Line Manager, for each project, understanding the relationship with the fee.
  • Assist Group Leader with monitoring engineering/CAD/Revit resource requirements for each project within your control.
  • Carry out engineering concept design to detailed designs, tender and contract, on site supervision to completion, ensuring projects are undertaken in accordance with design briefs and that our completion deadlines are achieved.
  • Liaise with the design team to produce coordinated designs that are technically compliant to a consistent quality and standard. Provide positive contribution to design/project meetings, as directed where required. Maintain regular ‘in house’ design reviews and checks.
  • Monitor and control project progress, design variations and project financial budgets where applicable.
  • Maintain excellent client and design team relationships to achieve high levels of satisfaction and repeat business.
  • Undertake structural survey works and produce reports for the same. Implement and assist in managing QA systems and procedures on all projects.
  • Assist with Project Archiving at end of a Project Completion.
  • Accurately complete timesheets, assist with invoices and other reporting requirements and submit in accordance with reporting formats and deadlines.
  • Maintain personal CPD and personal development plans.
  • Continuous adoption of all Civil and Structural engineering rules and regulations, endeavoring to ensure protection of the Company’s reputation and Professional integrity.
  • Implement and manage QA systems and procedures on all projects where directed.
  • Implement Company Health and Safety. Ensure all designs respond to the CDM Regulations.
  • Implement requirements for ISO9001 and ISO14001.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • BEng, MSc in Structural or Civil Engineering or an equivalent subject/qualification.
  • Minimum 4 years experience in Structural Engineering designing and managing projects within a design consultancy, engineering firm or main contractor.
  • Experience in Structural design for data centres is highly advantageous.
  • Good presentation and communication skills.
  • Experience of monitoring contract staff or third-party appointments would be desirable.
  • The ability to project a positive and professional attitude at all times.
  • Ongoing pursuit of Chartered status and/or business qualifications where applicable.
  • Good knowledge and use of appropriate project and structural design analysis software.
  • Personable and a ‘can do’ attitude with resource management experience.
  • Able to establish rapport and good working relationships within the project team and Clients.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and collaboratively and cooperatively is essential.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • A minimum of 10 years structural engineering experience as it relates to building design.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, RAM, ETABS, SAFE or similar analytical software.
  • Experience in design calculations and layouts.
  • Ability to design and detail in steel, concrete, masonry and wood.
  • Requires understanding of gravity analysis and lateral analysis.
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.
