Overview

We’re fixing hospitality for good. We’re on a mission to help the hospitality industry double profitability, reduce carbon footprint, and create better working environments for teams. Nory is an all‑knowing restaurant management system that combines real‑time data with AI predictive analytics to help restaurants operate with consistency, certainty and profitability. From food prep to forecasting, Nory puts operators in control of their margins. We’ve grown to a team of 50+ across Ireland, the UK and Spain and we’re scaling fast with a Series A led by Accel.

We’re now looking for a Senior Machine Learning Scientist to join our Data team. This role is ideal for a senior independent doer who has owned the entire ML lifecycle and is ready to ship production‑grade ML systems from scratch. Please note you must have the right to work in the UK/EU to be considered for this role.

What You’ll Be Doing

This is not a research or experimentation role; it’s about building systems that work in the real world and move the needle on customer outcomes and business impact. It is about building production ML algorithms that move KPIs.

  • Own the full ML lifecycle: from business problem formulation and algorithm design through to deployment, monitoring, and iteration in production
  • Apply strong classical ML thinking: you are confident in picking the right tool and justifying why
  • Keep models alive: build monitoring into every deployment (drift detection, retraining, KPI tracking) so models keep delivering value in production
  • Collaborate deeply with squads: work alongside product managers, engineers, and designers to define KPIs, design data flows, and embed ML into product features
  • Frame in business terms: focus on outcomes (profitability, efficiency, waste reduction), not just technical metrics
  • Contribute to culture: share learnings, give feedback, and help raise the bar for applied ML at Nory
What You’ll Bring
  • Background: Master’s Degree or higher in a STEM subject, with a significant statistics component
  • Full Lifecycle Ownership: 4+ years of experience taking ML systems from idea through to production in a commercial setting, independently owning the process
  • Classical ML theory depth: time‑series forecasting, regression/classification, causal signals, feature engineering, evaluation/monitoring, drift
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong Python and ML libraries (Scikit‑learn, Pandas, LightGBM), plus cloud and data tool knowledge (Snowflake, DBT, Omni)
  • Rigour & Impact: Rigorous statistical and experimental thinking with measurable business outcomes
  • Collaboration: Thrive in collaborative environments, communicate clearly, help improve team outcomes
  • Startup mindset: Fast, proactive, comfortable with ambiguity and multitasking while delivering real impact
Nice‑to‑have
  • Experience in smaller data teams with high ownership culture
  • Experience with B2B SaaS products
  • Experience with LLMs is a plus, but this role focuses on forecasting, optimisation, and statistical learning
What you’ll get in return
  • Competitive salary depending on experience
  • Equity at our Series A valuation
  • 35 days of paid leave per year (including bank holidays)
  • Comprehensive private health insurance
  • Enhanced parental leave and baby loss support
  • Learning & development culture – €1000 personal annual budget + quarterly book budget
  • €250 home office workspace budget
  • Regular team offsites & socials
  • Remote working with co‑working office space in London or Dublin
  • And much more
How We Work

Our vision is to build a better future for the restaurant industry. One where operators are in control, margins are stronger, and frontline teams can build careers they’re proud of. We move fast, stay focused, and hold ourselves to a high bar. Our values guide how we work, grow, and win – together.

  • We serve up impact with a side of profit: prioritise work that delivers real financial results for restaurant partners
  • We prioritise speed of service: move fast, unblock quickly, and deliver with urgency
  • We act like owners: own problems, raise the bar, and build better every day
  • We win as a crew: grow through feedback, collaboration, and shared wins
Interview Process
  • 15‑minute Initial Chat with Talent and People Partner
  • 40‑minute Hiring Manager Interview with Head of Data
  • 90‑minute live problem‑solving session with a senior data team member
  • 40‑minute Culture Interview with a Head of Design or Product
  • 30‑minute Final Stage with our CEO

We hire humans. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds, identities, and walks of life. We do not discriminate based on gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, family status, age, disability, or race. Why AI Careers in the UK Are Becoming More Multidisciplinary

Artificial intelligence is no longer a single-discipline pursuit. In the UK, employers increasingly want talent that can code and communicate, model and manage risk, experiment and empathise. That shift is reshaping job descriptions, training pathways & career progression. AI is touching regulated sectors, sensitive user journeys & public services — so the work now sits at the crossroads of computer science, law, ethics, psychology, linguistics & design. This isn’t a buzzword-driven change. It’s happening because real systems are deployed in the wild where people have rights, needs, habits & constraints. As models move from lab demos to products that diagnose, advise, detect fraud, personalise education or generate media, teams must align performance with accountability, safety & usability. The UK’s maturing AI ecosystem — from startups to FTSE 100s, consultancies, the public sector & universities — is responding by hiring multidisciplinary teams who can anticipate social impact as confidently as they ship features. Below, we unpack the forces behind this change, spotlight five disciplines now fused with AI roles, show what it means for UK job-seekers & employers, and map practical steps to future-proof your CV.

AI Team Structures Explained: Who Does What in a Modern AI Department

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are no longer confined to research labs and tech giants. In the UK, organisations from healthcare and finance to retail and logistics are adopting AI to solve problems, automate processes, and create new products. With this growth comes the need for well-structured teams. But what does an AI department actually look like? Who does what? And how do all the moving parts come together to deliver business value? In this guide, we’ll explain modern AI team structures, break down the responsibilities of each role, explore how teams differ in startups versus enterprises, and highlight what UK employers are looking for. Whether you’re an applicant or an employer, this article will help you understand the anatomy of a successful AI department.

Why the UK Could Be the World’s Next AI Jobs Hub

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has rapidly moved from research labs into boardrooms, classrooms, hospitals, and homes. It is already reshaping economies and transforming industries at a scale comparable to the industrial revolution or the rise of the internet. Around the world, countries are competing fiercely to lead in AI innovation and reap its economic, social, and strategic benefits. The United Kingdom is uniquely positioned in this race. With a rich heritage in computing, world-class universities, forward-thinking government policy, and a growing ecosystem of startups and enterprises, the UK has many of the elements needed to become the world’s next AI hub. Yet competition is intense, particularly from the United States and China. Success will depend on how effectively the UK can scale its strengths, close its gaps, and seize opportunities in the years ahead. This article explores why the UK could be the world’s next global hub for artificial intelligence, what challenges it must overcome, and what this means for businesses, researchers, and job seekers.
